I'm not going to sit on the fence with this one: just don't think the black grille goes with the rest of the chrome around the front-end design, and does not suit this particular model's character. An M4.....maybe.

Quoting a previous post on how to do it yourself. Extremely easy:


When you open the hood, you see approx 3 tabs at the top for each side. Gently push down on them one at a time and while pushing down, slightly pull the top part of the grill outward, moving your way across. Just get the top free but dont pull it out too much. Once the top is free, then gently pull the the bottom of the grill outward, from one side to the next working your way across. The lower section you will have to use a little more effort. The lower section will pull loose and then slide that grill section out completely. Take the new grill, slide the bottom section in first, lining up the lower tabs, then line up the top tabs so all three go under the plastic cover at the same time and then push it in until you hear the bottom and top all click. Just run your hand around each section at a time so its snug and clicked in place. Seriously, this is a 5 min job. (worst case, if you break the tabs of the grill you are replacing, no worries because thats the worst damage you can do during this process and you are replacing that grill anyway)

I left my 4 chrome and went black on my 5. There is much more chrome on the 5 (too much chrome imo).

I just got am '18 530e M Sport in Black Sapphire with the black grill and I think it makes it look meaner.

Just swapped my black grilles out and put the chrome back on and think I like it better. I liked the black and think it looks really sporty/aggressive on my carbon black, but with black interior, m-sport, shadowline trim, 20” wheels, and tinted windows was a bit too much. Chrome adds just a little contrast up front that I think I like better. I keep going back and forth, but maybe it might be too big a step outside my comfort zone for now. But was really easy to do and I can swap back and try the black ones again later. Truly is personal taste and/or depends on mood.

Did anyone with Azurite Black replace the kidney grills with gloss black ones? I have a 540 on order with night vision as well and just found out that ind does offer it for night vision . Not sure how complicated it is to replace the chrome when you have the night vision camera to consider? Just wondering if anybody out there has done this?

Black grill makes the car look more sporty and aggressive in my opinion.

My preference is black as well. Replacing front camera trim with color match gives them more definition.

Dug a little more and discovered that IND does offer color matched kidney grill for a 540 with night vision. Spoke to Ryan at IND who was very helpful. Also bought the color matched insert between the grills to offer more definition
