Exhaust Valve on 540i Msport

Hi guys

I want to try and remove the valve/flap on the right exhaust so that it remains open in all modes at all times. I dont have the skills to do it myself (wee, the space mainly), so i was wondering how to go about it. I asked Sytner when i got it new to do it but they said it would affect the warranty so they didnt.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

May be a M550iX thing. 540 flap may only open under heavy acceleration.

I think so.

Looks like I have to try the spring thing or go for the MPE in the future

I have a 19 540MSport. I use the Carly app if I wanna open or close the flap... I haven't tried that fuse method. Down side is I would have to connect to Carly every time I wanna open.
The flap opens on mid/heavy throttle, On any mode. I don't think it opens on drive modes buttons

Use carly to open it once then pull the fuse to keep it open?

I did try the mechanical method (cable tie) on mine to keep the flap open, and it was still pretty quiet and civilized on idle (after the initial start up raor which is not flap related), and also sounded the same when accelerating hard (because the flap would have been open anyway). When cruising, there was not a noticeable difference either. So I put everything back as it felt rather pointless.

Honestly yeah it may feel cool with the flap open but theres not much noise to make it that cool lol. Just alil humm when driving that prob only You can hear.

I had a "14" x5 3.5 Stage1 with OEM flap exhaust and When i hit boost hard then shifted 1st-2nd around 4K rpm the whiplash sound that came out was effff'in crazy where people got scared. I was hoping these B58M setup did the same. Pretty Wack I can't make the same shift sound with this OEM flap.

Hello, the installer took 1h30, he plugged it in easily, they just had to look for it to get the cable through without dismantling everything.

I just tried the fuse thing. Had to blip to 4K in Sport Plus to get the valves to open. Verified by feeling exhaust from both pipes each side. The fuse diagram doesn't look anything like my car. Pulled what appeared to be the only 7.5A fuse on the fusebox (I'm not an electrical engineer). Didn't work. Finally noticed the diagram folded in the fuse box, which shows exactly where 203 is. Pulled it. Thanks for the help.

I just opened my flap yesterday. Removed the spring clip with a pair of needle nose pliers and wired it open with some 12 gauge electrical wire, twisting it tight with a larger pair of regular pliers. Took 5 minutes; little skill required. Hoping for a little improvement in sound but no change that I could discern. Going to add an M Performance exhaust sometime soon I think. --Bob

You would think I would know this, but the thought never occurred to me. I added the MPE and the Dinan Elite v2 tune. While the MPE note is fairly subtle at idle, I'm pleased with the improvement (sound and drivability). I assumed the MPE still utilized the flap in comfort, but I honestly never drive in comfort. Is the flap completely eliminated with the MPE?

Yes, there are no exhaust flaps with the MPE.-Bob
