Those prices are starting points and can be had for significantly less if desired. The tire/wheel protection is the only one I would consider, but at half the price. The mark up on these items is large.

It all depends on the number of miles you drive each year. The kinda roads you drive on, bad city with potholes.
Because you have 18" wheels instead of the 20" your less likely to have rim damage or even curb rash so not that attractive. The maintenance package is really insurance on the cost of a brake replacement. I'm sure it's expensive (no M brakes on 18") but if you not putting on 15k miles a year they will probably last at least thru the 3 year. PPF is expensive but what exactly are they wrapping. I'll attach a photo I took at my tinting shop just as a roughy idea. My dealer included the whole dent, rim, anti theft package for 1 year for free and $999 for second year. I took the free year. They also offered through BMW to extend the 4 year bumper to bumper warranty to a 10 year/100k miles bumper to bumper warranty for $4k. I took that because I can cancel any time for prorated refund.

it would definitely be <10,000 miles per year for sure (live in NYC, only drive on weekends), so think I will pass on the break pads stuff.
looks like I might skip the tires too if I can't get it cheaper the only one I'm truly interested now is "4, paint protection wrap, 995+tax, it says both bumper so guess just front and rear bumper?" not sure if it's XPEL, will ask tomorrow I guess. |

In my early retirement years I sold BMWs and MINIs. We used to get small commissions on every item we encouraged the customer to buy from the F&I guy. Every item was very profitable to the dealership and the F&I guy and of marginal use to the customer. I would say don't buy any of them. A straight tire and wheel warranty from BMW should be much less than that crazy combined package that sells dent protection, interior cleaning etc. Complete waste of money. We used to sell tire and wheel packages for about $800-1,000 as I recall, although that was several years ago. The markup at retail is about 100%, so as noted there should be some negotiating room but many F&I guys won't negotiate. No one who worked at the dealership would buy any of those things, with the possible exception of a straight tire & wheel package. If you can get your F&I guy to provide that at reasonable cost without all the other junk, consider it if (1) you can't afford to pay for a damaged wheel and tire, (2) you generally like insurance type products and (3) you are likely to need the product (like you live in a pothole area and have busted tires and wheels before). I put tire and wheel on my wife's 2008 335xi and she went through two tires and one wheel. It paid for itself at a cost of about $800 back then. I put it on my 2010 535xi and never made a claim so it was a bad investment for me. I have never bought it since. On things like Xzilon or Xpel, I would not use the dealer for that. If you think you might want it, research it thoroughly ahead of time them select a detailer/installer who does it for a living and really knows the product and installation procedure and will stand behind it. A car dealer only does that stuff on the side infrequently. The maintenance upgrades they sell now cover lots of things that, up until a couple of years ago, used to be included in the 4 year maintenance coverage. The key thing is brakes. If you believe you'll go through them during the coverage period, consider it. On my 2010 535xi I had brakes covered for 4 years, then bought an extension for another two. But by the time I sold my car nine years and 46,000 miles later, the original front and rear pads still had 15,000 miles on them. Not such a good investment. When I picked up my car in November the F&I guy didn't even bother to try to sell me anything because he knew I worked there before. --Bob

Any paint protection I would ignore. As others have said it's just something for the dealer to do at a huge markup and they probably won't do it as well as a detailer rushing it to get done before you pick up the car.
If you want to do anything like that speaker to a detailer who will undoubtedly do a better job and possibly even cheaper. I didn't opt for any add ons of any sort when I got my car. |

To be clear, those prices aren't hugely marked up. That "city package" paint protection seems reasonable. One benefit of going through the dealer is if you are getting the car financed (although it sounds like you are buying cash) they can add these items to the financed amount.
If you will keep the car in Manhattan, I would probably get PPF applied to just the front and rear bumpers. (Ask the dealer for a custom package. I estimate the two bumpers should cost around $1k total to wrap.) |

clee1982 I'm picking up my X3M Comp from BMW Manhattan and I was wondering if you would've gotten any of those upgraded maintenance packages in hindsight? Thank you in advance!

As to the $995 paint protection wrap - personally no, not a fan of paint protection film. Love a high gloss durable ceramic coating applied after a proper paint correction. I'd not get this from the dealer, but rather from a top rated detail shop in your area soon after delivery.

I'd agree on the indy shop, there are some really good one's out there. On paint protection, I would disagree somewhat. I have a full nose, hood and fender wrap and it's so nice to have zero stone chips for a car three years old. I can barely tell the difference in the shine of the paint between wrap and bare. Ceramic will not protect you from stone chips, not one bit. Trust me, I know! I had a ceramic pro H done on my last car. Multi step, lifetime, blah blah blah. Got near a box truck spewing shit for 30 seconds and my whole front bumper was pitted all over.

All of it is negotiable and a "no" answer is probably right on everything. On any protective film or ceramic, I would use a good shop (and the dealer likely farms it out and marks it up). I have done tires and wheels and in NY I think it is worth it because the roads are terrible (even with 18" wheels) -- but not at the offered price.

I paid $1,900 for my Wheel and Tire Plus plan (Allstate), also a must in MA. I did get it through the dealer who voluntary knocked off 15% without me asking. I should have beat them down a little more. The "plus" covers cosmetic issues even if I am responsible.

Can you tell me which dealer this is ? My wheel and tire insurance was about the same but only covers 3 cosmetic and unlimited tires. I’ve gone through one tire in 2 years but I like the peace of mind !

You don't have to get it done at BMW dealer, and probably better elsewhere, but it was just "easy", and it really helped, no stone chip on the front and some guy side swipe me at parking lot on the rear bumper. Took to a XPEL shop, partially remove the wrap (just that small portion), everything was perfect under, then had some the guy put a small XPEL patch on it (vs. take of the entire old wrap on the rear bumper and re do the whole thing), I thought it might bother me, nop can't tell unless you zoom in and active look for it and that was quick (can't remember if it was cheap but no more than say $200 I think) |
