Weird CRANK noise on 530e??
Hello everyone,
I have a 2018 530e and I was wondering if anyone else hears a weird, very loud, CRANK noise when they get into their cars? The car is not turned on and it's not the typical electrical noises you hear from opening your charger port/lid or car doors. I am talking about a really loud crank whenever I enter the vehicle and sit on the driver seat. I am not really sure where the noise is coming from... P.S. I am average weight so it's not the suspension that is making the noise. |

Is the sound appearing to come from underside? My 540 makes a noise which can be heard in a quiet garage but not really sure what it is but it does it everytimeso assume it's normal.

Check one of the other threads called "Grinding noise on startup". I think it's the same sound your describing. Have you noticed the brake pedal moving when the sound occurs? Other threads mention it as well.

Yup...sounds like the same noise/issue. Thanks! I haven't notice the brake pedal move because I never step on the brake pedal as I enter into the vehicle.

I have it, too, on my 2019 M550i. And the brake pedal does move during the noise, which is only about a second. I agree with Highland Pete in the other thread, probably some brake servo or something. This car does make some noises (most of them good!).

I don't know what the part is called, but it's the automatic braking system. My car has only a few inches of clearance each side when entering/exiting my garage. If you enter/exit too quickly, the sensors think you're going to hit something and the auto brake system kicks in. When that happens, it makes the same exact noise as the random cranking/whirring noise when you enter the vehicle.
I've noticed this happens more if the parking brake wasn't applied before turning off the car. When you enter back in, the car shifts forward/backward slightly, which causes that brake system to crank up. |
