Auto stop start kicks in too early
As above really, anyone else find this? When crawling up to a red light gradually slowing down the ASS will often kick in and turn the engine off when I’ve not actually stopped moving, maybe doing 1mph.
I had ASS on my F30 and that worked fine, left a second or so before actually stopping before turning the engine off |

That hasn't been my experience when driving the car in ECO Pro individual, but then again, I don't use ECO mode or ASS all the time.

I find the reverse. If I creep towards a standstill it seems to delay or even prevent the auto stop. I think that hesitating on the pedal gives the software a clue that you might not actually stop after all.

Here's the way mine behaves: I'm braking for a car that stops in front of me. As I approach it, I ease up on the brake a little to prevent a jerk when it actually stops. (I've heard this referred to as limo braking.) As I do that, or maybe just before I do that, the engine stops then immediately restarts. The system seems to think that I was coming to a stop then changed my mind. Annoying.

Agreed bpbaud, perfect description. I am so used to limo braking that puts hard to get out of the habit. I think the ASS is just a tad too sensitive and needs to alloys the car to actually stop not just nearly stop.

For the last two days I been driving in ECO Pro Mode and noticed this a few time as well. I keep this feature off so had not noticed it until now.

I noticed this also. I was told by the dealer that diesels stopngo are more ‘rough’ - but I’m not sure I believe that answer. (Drive a 530d)
What engines are you guys driving? |

But seriously, the stop start could do with maybe a 1-2 seconds delay to make sure you are fully stopped.

9 months later, and I still can't kick the habit of feathering - it's just too ingrained. So, yeah, I'm still plagued by the auto-stop-start stopping then immediately restarting.

Do any of you really see a benefit in using ASS? Significantly better mileage?

In city traffic, ASS could save up to 10% fuel. That's the official line.

I think there is a display in the trip computer somewhere that shows the total time the ASS has been engaged for... It would be interesting to see how long the stop/start cuts the engine for over the course of a full tank of fuel. I imagine in city driving it could mount up to be a fairly significant number.
