Changing the tailpipes

can you change the tailpipe trims yourself? I would like to install black chrome ones.

I believe this is an option, but it depends on which model you have. What you have circled looks to be a lower spec or diesel option exhaust tip. Most people just pull the surround and DIY spray paint it in their own preferred finish.

No on an M550. You can get new covers for the tips on a 540.

I ordered the OEM black chrome ones but dont know how to get them off. they are round

I have black chrome quad tip replacement on my '21 M550i but was able to do so only through a muffler delete and adding the tips onto the replacement pipes

Yup, the only way to get new tips on an M550 and have them look and sit right is to modify the muffler by deleting it or replacing it. Sure a muffler shop may be willing to chop and weld (most won’t) but it won’t look right.

My motivation for going Dinan Catback was 100% the look of the quad double rounds.
