Xdrive issues / G31 530d xdrive (IAS and VDC)
What experiences do people have with xdrive failing?
I have 530d xdrive G31 (with IAS and VDC) and despite having all wheels road force balanced and all alloys checked for damage - I am still getting a vibration from what appears to be the front left (passenger side) - but BMW cannot find any issue with the car. Car has only done 45,000km, with no accidents and I am the only owner. Any ideas / help appreciated 😀 |

There are topics on this forum section, covering G3x vibrations. If it is an unusual vibration sequence, VDC faults can be involved. |

Did you try rotating wheels from front to rear? If that's not the option, try finding wheel shop which has Hunter wheel balancer as it would detect damaged tyres which wouldn't be shown on regular wheel balancing machines.

Issue became apparent around 6 months ago.
BMW have replaced wheel bearing on that side on basis it was slightly more worn than the rest. Have tried new tyres (MPS4), balancing, road force balancing (which resolved harmonic sound from tyres) and tracking to attempt to resolve. No noises, clicks or otherwise - so only felt rather than heard. Have tested VDC system and checked to see that all shocks are getting voltage and responding to bumps ok - all seems ok. It feels like it could be a worn bushing, bearing, cv joint or the driveshaft itself - but difficult to lock down without replacing each component in turn. Car is still in (extended) warranty - so not concerned about repair costs but BMW garage(s) cannot find anything wrong… Last edited by bmw585; 10-18-2021 at 08:00 AM.. |
