iDrive Software Version 11/2020.34 -- New icons on HVAC Screen
My 2021 M550 was updated to 11/2020.34 by the dealer this week in an attempt to address some quirky behavior by the stereo/amp (bass and channels randomly dropping or amping up. Jury is still out on whether this fixed it).
I've noticed a few changes--like the auto settings for heated and ventilated seats are now under a separate automations heading. However, also noticed that now when I turn the car off, the fan icons below appear on the HVAC screen. This is new--not sure what it means and neither is the dealer. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Seeing that you're located in an area of the country where the temps are dropping low...the icon reminds me of the REST (residual heat) feature that BMW has used on the IHKA control panels for a couple of decades. I wonder if their appearance is a reminder that you can actuate the REST feature to keep the HVAC blower running and blowing warm air into the cabin (if you desire) for approx 15-16 minutes with the engine turned off?
Just an off the wall guess.

Is the car running and doing a Remote Start thing when these icons show up?
This isn't related to REST as that shows a REST symbol when it is running. These icons are flashed on my 530e when the car is in Preconditioning mode. |

Those icons come on when comfort ventilation (formerly known as parked car ventilation) is scheduled.
In other words, if you set up a time for the comfort ventilation to come on, when you turn the car off, those icons will come on. I'm not sure if they are supposed to come on by themselves though. My M550 is a 2019 with drive 6 so the only time they come on is when I have scheduled the ventilation. |

I figured this out--the software update for some reason toggled on an 8:51pm preconditioning event. I can't delete it, so it seems like a bug, but toggling it off made the fan icons go away when turning off the vehicle.

By any chance, do you have that scheduled through your BMW Connected app?

Why don’t I have this update available through remote software upgrade on my 2021 540xi! I complained about the climate rules which are buggy in July firmware.
Do you seen an option for Urban Cruise Control, if you have the driving assistance package? |

Have you had a remote software update yet on your 2021? I have not, thought they might be more frequent with some good upgrades.

Thanks - BMW needs to definitely make what the dealer has and what is automatically installing the same. Should not have to go to the dealer anymore to do that, defeats the whole purpose of automatic updates.
Tesla can do it and BMW needs to do it too. |

Agreed. I haven’t seen a single update since picking it up in August and there are bugs I have reported which appear to have been fixed!! I’m taking this into the dealer soon for service will want the firmware upgraded.
