Engine vibration at braking on D
Hi,
I own a 2017 530i Xdrive @ 65k miles. When I stop at traffic lights or any time foot on brake and car is in D, the engine creates vibration/shaking noise. When I release the brakes and move the car the noise goes away. When I put the car in N, again it goes away. This occurs especially in cold weather and the vibration decreases as the engine gets warmer. A little increase in rpm is expected in D when on brake in automatic transmission. My previous F30 320d was making similar thing but this car, although it has a gasoline engine, is generating a louder noise. Is it normal or anyone having a similar issue and solution if this is a problem? Last edited by gasoline; 12-27-2022 at 11:07 PM.. |

Sounds like you need a pair of engine mounts. Maybe a good time to replace transmission mount as well while you at it.

I made a search and heard the same symptoms from some other users of various car brands. Many of them had their engine mounts replaced and they say problem is gone. I took the car to service and they said replacement is necessary, after an inspection. I was afraid of a torque converter issue. I will have the engine mounts replaced in a few days, hope the problem will be solved, will write the result. Happy new year all bimmers 😊 |

Hi,
My car is a G31 520d (diesel) 2018 with 114K kms, around 70K miles. I have exactly the same problem!!!! Do you have replaced only engine mounts?? People tell me that the automatic gearbox also has mounts, concretely has two. The engine has three mounts. Please, tell us. Thanks!! Last edited by ShadowPaul; 02-08-2024 at 12:58 AM.. |

Hi,
I just replaced engine mounts, there are 2 ones, with original BMW parts. For my issue the engine mount replacement was sufficient. The problem did not return up to now, we’ll see. Yes, the transmission also have mounts but I guess the vibration symptoms are different, it would shake during also shifting maybe. In my case, the car was vibrating only in idle in Drive or reverse mode. The mechanic showed me a quick test; He opened the hood and showed me how the engine moves when somebody get in the car and put it in D or R. The whole engine block was laying too much to right or left side (in D or R) before the mounts were replaced, as if on a spunge. It is normally expected to move but not too excessive. This can be a good test for you. Hope you will solve it! |
