Considering a 530e. How are they out of warranty?
Considering a 2021 530e with 34k miles. It's still under warranty for the time being, but I'll own it out of warranty for most of the time I own it. How are these to own out of warranty? I have had many BMWs in the past and currently have a 2005 530i with 180k miles that I deal with. Mainly worried about the hybridization portions on the vehicle. Can anyone chime in?

Have you owned it the entire 80k miles? It seems like modern BMWs are fairly reliable. Do you charge the battery often?

Have you looked into extended warranty options or priced them out to see what you will be looking at? I have no idea if EV or PHEV's aftermarket warranties are more costly than the equivalent 100% ICE model, but having just bought a 7 years aftermarket on my ICE G30, it wasn't bad.

I have only been out of warranty for a month so I’m not qualified to give long term data.
But we don’t see a lot of failures for the PHEVs here. Which is promising. Quote:
15Y/150K Miles for the power train if a Check Engine light is thrown 10Y/100K Miles on a the HV battery. An extended warranty will cover other issues though like iDrive giving up the ghost and etc. |

If you are in those states there is no reason to buy the other versions.

Thanks everyone. I ended up with a 2021 530i instead. I found a really good deal on one with every single option checked that was still under factory warranty plus it was a CPO. An incredible vehicle for sure...

I got it for $32,600 with 36k miles. Car is an Alpine White 2021 530i with Ivory White Nappa leather, Luxury seating package, Massaging Seats, Executive Package, Parking Assistance Package, Drivers Assistance Plus Package, Sensatec dashboard, Style 635 wheels.
Only option is doesn't have is heated steering wheel, since it was a Texas car. |

The graph above represents my gripe with modern BMW long haul ownership. You simply can’t get a 10 year extended warranty contract from BMW and any price. They just don’t have any confidence in their own products past 7 years since in-service date. Also detest the fact that they cover most emission related components up to 8 years. The current BMW extended warranty contracts have a lot of exclusions (They don’t cover hoses, seals and other mission critical components because they well know they will melt, crack or become brittle - Looking at you return coolant lines). Also their warranties are geared to high mileage drivers, 15K+ miles per year. If you are like me, a chap that hardly drives 5K-6K a year, their warranties are not that great.

Alpine White is fantastic. Easiest color to maintain. My 530i will be 7 years old and the paint still looks lustrous and beautiful like the day I picked her up.

I think that was a great idea. Shame other states didn’t do the same thing or opt into CARB standards. That really helped me feel more comfortable buying a BMW PHEV. With BMW historically having reliability issues longer term and expensive repairs the 15Y coverage really helped to give me peace of mind. As 15Y is well within my intended ownership period (7-10Y). So far, my 530e has been reliable. |

I also have a 2018 530e. I was wondering what exactly does the carb state warranty cover. Is it just the batteries themselves or is it the power train and batteries? Would really appreciate the details on this. Also, this was a great forum read! |

[QUOTE=LogicalApex;31135175]I've only had a MY2020 so I haven't read the MY2018 warranty booklet. I assume so since it is CARB based, but you can pull the 2018 version in case it differs at all here:
https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...nty-books.html Great I found exactly what I needed. The hybrid system which are the batteries have a 10 year warranty or 150k miles. The emission related parts are under the 15 year 150k mile warranty. People mix the two warranties which was why I needed to see it in writing from BMW. Attaching the images of proof if anyone else is curious to know also. Much appreciated 🤝 |
