BMW is honestly behind when it comes to sound. Its gotten to the point where you can actually tell the sound coming from the cars is being pumped in from the speakers. Comparing my new C43 amg to my old 435i with the M perf exhaust, the difference is night and day. The C43 is super loud with all the windows rolled up where as I would only hear my 435i with the windows down. In fact, I prefer the sound to the f80/f82s I have test driven.

What's up with the "despite V8" in the title? I'm not even sure where to begin rebutting that. Since when has engine configuration had anything to do with ActiveSound? The F10 M5 has ActiveSound, and it has a V8 also.

It is possible to code S63TU active sound on a 320i ...... that being said it's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to put together sound files for other cars Ferrari , GTR etc.. and upload them

If it were real, this wouldn't be possible:

BMW adds active sound for one simple reason. To save money. It is much cheaper to engineer a playback soundtrack that sounds great than to spend money engineering an engine that sound great. The customer will not be able to tell the difference which is which from inside the car.
A V8 by itself does not necessarily sound amazing. Money has to be spend to make it sound right. |

Why not just roll the window down a little?

No hate but I'm pretty sure people enjoy the active sound because modern BMWs don't sound that good to begin with...
Do you really think an E92 m3 or E60 m5 would have needed active sound? And if it did I bet you 100% of the people who owned it would've coded it out |

ASD is shamefully artificial and sounds that way. Here's a refresher on the difference for those of you too young to know, too old to remember or too lame to care

You should do research because you clearly don't know why ASD is actually used

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here , but yes, ASD is completely fake.

It's not even pre-recorded, it's synthesized.

Warning overly strong comment about a very trivial matter to follow ... and btw I love the BMW brand including the new M3/M4/M5.
Active sound is a total disconnect from reality. If you enjoy the pleasure of listening to a synthesized Ferrari V8 while all those you pass on the street hear a lawnmower then bravo for you. Its hard to describe the level of the disconnect but try this analogy. You are out on the town for a nice dinner and some dancing with your girl. You accidentally take a dump in your pants, i mean who would do that on purpose, but because you applied so much cologne to your neck every thing smells great to you, but unfortunately to everyone else the smell is not so great. |
