Does anyone here know what exactly the "Anthracite Alcantara Headliner" add on option does? The BMW website does not do a great job of showing what it changes.

your headliner comes in alcantara material - like suede.

After some research it only shows you where you are. Doesn't do turn by turn navigation.

Ah got it. The picture BMW uses on the design your own website is really confusing. Looks like it was highlighting the front seats, not the roof of the car.

I have a BOSE surround in my SUV. There is no comparison to HK and Bose. The HK in the M550 is MUCH better.
You can also bimmercode the B&W sound stages (concert, live, studio, etc) onto your I Drive/HK system.
It makes a significant difference.

I ordered one (550i) today and received an allocation. B&W was not an option to choose from. Looks like it’s gone.

Great choice of individual color! If I do not remember false when I ordered my BRG M550i two years ago it took about a month for Bmw M to confirm the individual color until I got a production week (which then was postponed a few weeks more). Had to wait 6 months in total for the car.

With the option "Anthracite Alcantara Headliner" the headliner, a- b- and c- pillar and the parcel shelf will be alcantara (The b-pillar will only have alcantara down to the height of the windows. Below that its plastic).

Looks like the shipping vessel carrying my M550i (and maybe others as well) "The Brooklands" in scheduled to port today approximately at 11PM Eastern Time at the Port of Baltimore.

Hopefully it gets assigned to a shipping truck sooner than later, but I'm still expecting to received the car by late September.

How long from placing the order + deposit did it take folks to get a production number?

My timeline is as follows so far is:
- September 2nd - order placed with deposit made
- September 5th - told build code was sent and waiting on production number
- September 15th - start wondering how long production number takes

Still curious what other people's experience has been, but I called into the dealership as I was getting zero response from my sales rep. Was told they have allocations and I'm next in line, but that the factory still hasn't picked up the order. Was told they don't have any insights into when the factory will pick it up. They have sent it in, and will just keep checking back for when a production number will be assigned.

I got mine the same day that I went into the dealership to place the order that was on the 10th of Sept. They had 2 incoming 550i's so I snagged one up and had it built to my specs as follows:

Sales person gave me the production number and told me the it was assigned for build week 42 which comes out the be the 3rd week of October. Hopefully if everything goes as planned with no hiccups, he told me should be here by Christmas time frame. Fingers crossed.

I ordered mine 12 days ago and was told to expect a production number within the next week or so. That will be almost exactly three weeks after the initial order.

This whole ordering thing can be complicated and the terminology used is not consistently applied. When I was 550 shopping (looking for something in inventory) all the dealers that had something said that it was sold (or wanted stupid money for it) and said that they would order me a car. No one would commit to actually having an allocation except for my local dealer (they're straight with me) who flat out admitted that they have no allocation and had no idea when they would get one. One or two salespeople claimed to have an allocation, but quite frankly I did not trust them to tell me the truth.

As I understand it, you have to have an allocation before the dealer can actually place the order with BMW, then later it's assigned a production number, then a production week, and after it's built it gets assigned a VIN.

So you could possibly have an "order" in place with the dealer, but the BMW factory has no idea about it, and you have no idea that's the case until you actually get that production number.

Hopefully that helps and doesn't further confuse anyone.

Assuming of course, that I communicated it accurately.

The way I understood it is that once the allocation is approved, they can configure the order and get the production number. When I got mine, I had my rep on the phone and we were reviewing the order options. After submitting the order, he checked if the order was accepted and got the number.

We did the whole dealer order sheet and deposit after that was done. This was all done remotely over the phone and email.

Almost there, just about ready to cross the finish line! My journey is just beginning, build slated for week 41 or 42 (locked in yet). How did you handle the wait?

I was about to buy a used S6 on the Audi side to get the V8. Ended up switching back over to the BMW side and ordered the M550i. It wasn't quite enough to upgrade my A6 with Rivo stage 2, S6 suspension, and RS7 intake, had to have the real V8 feel.

Wow this is quick - how did you do that? Dealer had some kind of allocation? I've ordered 2-3months before you and still waiting to confirm production
