I thought we were bad in Ireland, that is a rip off. In Ireland the majority of people drive 520d's or maybe a few 530d's as the rest are prohibitively expensive. When BMW were launching the car last October, they had a 540i that was being showcased in the dealerships. It was fully loaded with optional extras but it cost €135k (around $160k). Moderately spec'd 520d cost €70k (around $83k). Discounts from list price would be either non existent or very low.

No discounts? Wow, how is that possible? I am getting 20-22% off G30 for my clients. Based in Prague, CZ.

Would be interested to see how the color strategy works. For G30, no actual silver is available in standard range. At least not now.
Conveniently, in Individual range, this Rhodonite silver pops up. Do they think they will make everyone who wants silver pay for Individual paint? |

I have seen the BMW large sample panels including the Rhodonite and when it is next to the other silvers it does have a slight pinkish cast - because that is the colour of the gem stone used.
This is one that you do have to see in real life. I have asked my retailer to give a call if they know of one in the area - but I suspect it will be a rare colour appearance at lest for a while. Unfortunately most of the standard colours just seem a bit uninspiring and it is even worse in Canada because the only version here is the Msport - and those colours are even more restricted unless you go individual. Seems a tad odd that you can get a 7 series in red - but no reds (or any sporty colours at all) for the 5's . Cheers Jim Cash |

I think that is BMW's general strategy. They offer enough at base spec but hold back what might be argued as more desirable so you end up ticking the option boxes . I am sure in a lot of cases it costs them no more to produce in volume than existing options .

Silver is not my fav for car paint, but it looks perfect on that marvelous machine. I'll take it.

We have "BPM" a tax specially for cars and motorbikes. The name litterally translates to "Tax for Cars and Motorbikes" and used to be 40% on top of the catalogue price + vat (used to be 17,5% then 19% and 21% since 2012). Hence why any decent/fairly exotic car, is only available to the rich and famous. Since a few years though, that extra tax is now fully based on emissions. Say our Gas Guzzler tax. I don't know how that is calculated, I've never bought a new car and will never do so in NL. I'm already paying taxes through the nose for everything. But that's cool, I'm very happy with my mint 1998 E36 m3. (bought in Germany ) But that is just buying a new car. We also have one of the highest fuel prices, then there is road taxes, insurance. All in all, total cost of ownership of a car here, is a serious chunk of one's income.

Damn those wheels look so good on the video as compared to BMW's website. Just wish they were a tad darker, like a smoke grey.
And yes this guy is annoying as heck. But he does have some early vehicle walk-arounds and videos in crystal clear quality. |

I almost think BMW should've carved the headlights better to give the G series a more aggressive line (a la F80). The headlights look WAY too big and docile on that face. Their design team skipped a few beats on an otherwise fantastic job. Hope the LCI model sees some aggressiveness pumped in.
I tried to imagine (using my extremely poor iPhone editing skills) what I would've liked the car to look like. Who's with me? |
