Animated bar graph of Top 15 Global Brands over nearly two decades shows BMW's rise

Found this super interesting Watch Nokia fall into the Abyss and Apple come out of nowhere. BMW joins the list around 2006 or 2007. The chart starts in 2000 and goes all the way to 2018.

How were the rankings done? Through regular people opinions? Because it's just so happen that the top four also have the largest market caps.

Also with the bars grinding against each other it looks a bit sexual.

If Apple doesn't start giving us 'One more thing' they're going to lose people.

Living in Seattle it's been amazing witnessing the rapid growth of the region thanks to Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks. Not to mention a whole bunch of other large firms based in the area (Nordstorm, Boeing) or with satellite campuses (Google, Facebook).

I hope Seattle doesn't also claim FB. It's like SoCal makes claim to Intel becuase Intel has an office here.

GE...what a shame...

pretty wild to see apple appear at the bottom, and then basically sprint to the top!

i'm guessing if facebook or amazon were as widely adopted / available in china they would have passed apple.

Apple and Amazon are virtually tie in their market cap so I wouldn't say one is the better than the other and when it comes to bottom lines, market cap is all that matters.

It's too bad all the online services companies do not operate in China. China is very protective of their own services and won't allow outside competition.

There are a lot of hypes surrounding China. Has anyone here ever purchased a set of tires Made in China? That's correct - they don't exist here. That's because nobody can trust their lives when it comes to China products except for some very cheap stuffs.

That is the dilemma with China. They want to sell high end stuffs to the western world but they can't without opening up their economy for inspection, certification and so on. And it seems like they got a lot of things to hide and there is virtually no transparency. If they open up, they will be subjected to competition which they don't want. But if they don't, then all they can do is sell low end stuffs.

amazon actually exists in china, and has for nearly a decade i believe. however, their value proposition doesnt resonate with the chinese culture andthey havent been able to surpass alibaba.

i read an interesting article suggesting that amazon's best play in the chinese market could be in "high-end, authentic western products" (hemisphere, not apparel). the reason we like amazon in the US is their ability to deliver cheap stuff, really fast....and that just isnt enough to get chinese users to switch away from alibaba

yes...understand that market cap is what matters from a shareholder perspective, but this chart is the "value of the global brand"...which is much different than market cap. apple is more recognizable globally, and especcially in china which is why they appear so far ahead of amazon in this chart.
