M Performance Front Splitter - how much practicality is sacrificed?

I love the looks of the M Performance Front Splitter but I'm worried about practicality. Things like curbs, speed bumps, and driving in and out of steep underground garages.

Anyone had it installed and can share some info? I'm considering installing it on my xdrive with adaptive drive (which makes the car sit a bit higher I think), but wonder whether it makes sense, as it's my only car, a daily, and used to haul my 2 kids.

What do you think?

I have a friend who's had a M5 F10 with front lip. In feel words: complicated, hits every where in almost every speed bumps. I live in Brazil so speed bumps are famous to be very tall here!

The f10 m5 sits much lower than a g30 xdrive though, right?

Exactly! I have the MP on my M550i which sits 10mm (or is it 15?) lower than a standard G30 and it is not a problem. Clearly it reduces some clearance but in everyday driving it's not really an issue. Only thing you need to look out for is the curb when you're perpendicular/angle parking and the odd steep driveway that suddenly changes angle. My F-Type sits lower and that sucker is a pain in the butt...

You gotta realize that you have to lower your car to a minimum degree at least for the lips to look good.

Thus, if you add front lip, you better make sure you drive with extreme caution..

On my 330e I have the sport suspension and there are deep road bottoms where I live and I managed to shred my belly pan. So...yes...if you do that drive very carefully when going over speed bumps, intersection valleys, and parking at parking blocks (which I have been doing since I replaced the belly pan).

Here are a couple of pics of the MP splitter on an M550i. So the M550i is 10mm lower than other G30s and then this reduces the clearance further. Compared to some cars like the F-Type it is still a fair bit of clearance but you do need to be careful particularly with parking curbs. I tend to go slow over speed bumps anyways and it isn't close to being a problem at all.

Any issues backing in to spots with curbs with the rear diffuser?
Which dealer did you get to do the install? It seems like most of the BC dealers want me to buy the splitter/diffuser from them or they won't install it (and I'd rather not pay double the online price!)

No issues with backing into spots, the diffuser is not very low at all.

Bought the car and had the MP parts installed by Park Shore Motors in North Van. At the time, they could not get the front spoiler/splitter for me - BMW Canada would not supply it - so they didn't have a problem with me bringing that up from the US. The rest of the parts they provided at a decent discount and they did the complete install.

If you want someone to do labour only, perhaps Park Shore or another deal will consider it but if not try Performance One in Richmond.
