LOL- I just started a thread on another forum related to this, asking if anyone knew where to find the article that got me interested in BMW. It started...

In high school, around 1994, I earned the special privledge in my computer class to actually GO ONLINE (Prodigy, I think, on a 286 or 386). The first place I went was BMW's site. The graphics were crude 4-color drawings that took forever to load and only looked vaguely like the car, but the site allowed me to order promotional materials through the mail.

I did, and a few weeks later, to my shock, they ACTUALLY ARRIVED. Included was a pamphlet containg a reprint of Car & Drivers Long-term road test of the e36 325i. I'd never been particularly interested in BMW, but after reading that article I was hooked on cars in general and BMW in particular (I finally have my own 335i now).

In icy conditions I lost control entering the I-495 Beltway and spun across four lanes of traffic, almost. A Ford Taurus hit me head-on in the fast lane. Miraculously I walked away with only a headache. My BMW sustained relatively minor damage to the front end. Luckily the Taurus driver was OK but the front axle looked like it had broken off. I have never driven anything but a BMW since.

I've had a few: 84 528e, 86 325e, 88 M6, 2005 M3 ZCP, 2006 M3 ZCP, 2006 X3, 2007 335i e92, 2007 X3, 2008 328xi e92, and various company BMWs

Once I left the Marine Corps in 1999 I decided my civilian career would involve enjoying each day at the office. The choice was easy. In October of 2009 I hit my 10 year mark with BMW. The great community of enthusiasts and the fact BMW just keeps getting better has really made it a fun ride.
Thanks! Of the several bimmers you've had, which one was your favorite?

My mom used to race her 318I and my dad raced his E30 M3, 2002Ti, and now his E36 M3. Then i first drove my dads E36 M3 and was hooked. My dad suprised me with a E30 325IX crashed and beat up but driveable. Now every penny I get goes into my car and I refuse, no matter how of my friends cars I drive, I will not leave BMW becuase nothing comes close.

Yeah. I'm amazed at all the responses. This is the first time that one of my posts has ever made the main page of any forum I'm a member of. It's been really cool reading all these great stories and more just keep on coming.

Scorpion suggested I take a screen shot as proof, so I did.
This shot was taken a few hours ago when it had 120 comments. Earlier, it was on top of the main page as the featured post.

Hopefully, this thread will continue on forever.

My older brother (29 years old) bought a 135i while he was in Germany and when he got stationed at Nellis a few months back and I seen all the cool sh*t he did to it from rims to Hamman parts and interior upgrades and everylight we stopped @ people hanging off his sack...I had no choice but to copy him. He stole my gf's while I was younger so I'm jacking his taste which I ahve to say is excellent in this dept.

I just purchased a used 2008 535i with 32k miles on it..sport package, comfort access, nav the whole 9 yards except for the side skirt package ( m sport package its called I think ) so it's fully hooked up.

So he pretty much got me into bmw's and minus the i drive always giving me control messages...I'm bmw from here on out... ( and not to mention i've gotten action from girls now that would have never talked to me in the past ) lol...and i don't even have rims yet

It all started when I first drove a BMW. My parent's 2002 X5 4.6is. I am all BMW now and forever.

It all started 11 years ago when I bought one of their motorcycles:

Since then, I've owned a 325i, M5, M3, R1200RT, Cooper S, and the 128i.

The high-revving e90 M3 got me interested in a BMW.

Otherwise, I'm completely careless about most of all the other models which BMW makes.

Needless to say, I now have a E90 335i and my cousin have a E90 330i.
Wow almost identical story here... Despite wanting a Z4 (my heart was set on 2.5i toledo blue & SMG), my mothers infinite wisdom prevailed and so I ended up with a 04 X3 3.0i.

While perhaps not as sporty as I'd have liked, xDrive made it damn good fun in the bends (tires squealing and everything). Looking back I drove that car way too hard — which would make sense given all the rattles...

All is well now though, ///M roadster FTW!! Looks like we both got what we wanted.

To answer the original question though, my infatuation started with my father's 535i (E34), grew infinitely when I saw Tomorrow Never Dies (how cool was that 7?!) and grew to angry fanboy proportions when my parents bought an E-class wagon despite my insistence on E39 — the E would end up being a total lemon and they ended up in a X5 not long after. Oh and ever since I've had broadband, more hours than I care to share have been lost on bmw.com...

Why BMW:

I guess it started back when the 320 hit the road 80's - then friends had the 5 and 6 series. Always wanted on - then just got this Z4 M. Everthing I expected so far.

Back in the early '80s, after autocrossing a Mazda RX3 and looking for something fun and non-rotary to go autocrossing in, I bought a 2002 Ti with a friend and went racing. Modded it a bunch and had fun with it. Later I got an E21 320i for a while. Got out of BMWs for a long time, though I drove quite a few out on teh autocross tracks over the years. When I decided it was time to get a "genleman's hot rod" and start with a luxury car that was also sporting, I picked up the E38. It's exactly what I want in a daily driver. Comfortable, more than fast enough, stylish, cheap to own, and fun to drive.

the day I brought it home @ 143k miles:

And now @ 180k miles:

when i was a little kid, dad used to own a lot of different cars, from E21 320, W123 300D, W126 300SD, Alfa Romeo 75 Cloverleaf Quadrifoglio, Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione....
the Alfa and Lancia got my heart so bad..... also the classic E21 was a very nice car, everything feel so solid.... and since they i told myself i have to buy one of those one day...... so 28 years later, at the age of 32, i finally bought myself a 335i as a birthday gift! i hope it's not too late to own a first bmw in my life! =)

Mom used to have a 840ci, that's what got me into bimmers. Then got my first e46, fell in love and now with the e92.
