2020 540 Alpine/Night Blue Extensive Build Thread
Hey All, I recently purchased a 2020 540i and have pretty big plan for the car. I was really proud of my F10 build and never made a dedicated thread, so I figured I'd start clean with this car and document everything I'm doing to it. I also noticed that the G30 platform doesn't have a ton of content, so anything I can do to create a guide and reference for the upcoming owners makes me feel good. I already have a ton of the mods in hand or on order!

I appreciate that! Absolutely will keep the pictures coming. This is the first big weekend for it now that I’m done parting out the F10. I’ve quite familiar with your build as you’re one of the few that has documented your build on here! Cheers

540 Badge
First Update: IND 540i Badge - All of the trim on the car is black so this one had to be done ASAP. Process was easy enough, I tape around the letters to provide boundaries for the new one while protecting the paint from the heat gun treatment. I only used the heat for 30 seconds or so. A trim tool wrapped in a shop towel was enough to pry the number loose. I used a adhesive remover wheel (highly reccomend) to get the big stuff off and then a little goo gone to finish it off. In hindsight, I would have given my self marking for the start and end of each number/letter. I had to eyeball it a bit, ended up with one adjust on the 4 and the final result I'm happy with. It's one of those things where if you are off the slightest and can notice it, it will drive you crazy until you fix it.

The next update is the Intake and Carbon Engine Cover. The car is so utterly quiet and boring without any mods (coming from an FBO, manual F10 N55 mind you) so I had to prioritize something to make the car a bit more fun. The ETA on my Remus axle back is July, so Intake it is. I was torn between the Dinan carbon Intake and the Turner Motorsport carbon intake, I opted for the Turner one because it is a true closed box design, where the Dinan has little slots/openings. I also went with the Turner Carbon Fiber Engine cover so the weave matches and they pair nicely. The clamps on the lower intake boot were a pain to access, and once loosened, the intake tube itself was extremely stuck. I had to pull as hard as I could while using a U shaped pick tool to remove the lower boot. Once that was done, install was a breeze. I really like the way the Turner kit was put together, all of the standoffs fit in perfectly, and overall I'm extremely happy with the product. It produces a nice little whoosh when pulling boost and a satisfying flutter when letting off heavy throttle.

Is there any codes once that stock intake and resonator thing is removed?

I've made a good amount of progress, never end up with the right pictures so I've been holding out to post a bit. Here's an update on the mirror caps as well as the spacers installed (12.5mm Front 17.5mm Rear). The quality of the carbon is really impressive for the $165 I paid for the mirrors. They fit perfectly and look great. I also grabbed some sequential blinkers off amazon for another 15-20 bucks. All in all it came out exactly how I had imagined! For anyone curious, you do NOT need to remove the mirror glass to do this. It did take a second to figure out how to get the caps to release. My recommendation would be to start on the clip furthest from the car and get it out just enough so that when you do the clip closer to the car, the whole thing pops right out.
