Detune for winter?

I've been running a tune from Evolve since August and have decided to detune, or return to stock, with it being winter. Thought it might be safer to reduce the torque back to factory values while driving through snowy conditions where I live.

It's my understanding that the car would reduce torque to limit wheel spin as part of its traction and stability control anyway but I'm wondering if anyone else cycles their tunes between the seasons.

This will be my first winter with my BM3 stage 2 tune. I'm going to leave my tune as is, because on the days the roads are good I enjoy my tune too much not to have it available. If the roads are that bad I take the RAM pickup out.

Why not use eco pro if not already using that to dull throttle inputs? Just a thought

My 540i is currently BM3 stage2+...

During winter months and generally, I tend to change my drinving style accordingly to the road and weather conditions. Not flooring it as much as I would in the dry, taking bends slower etc... I always drive in sport mode but sometimes using eco pro or comfort mode "kills" the response of the car, which can help with more cautious driving in bad weather or icy roads.

Not sure about your car but I have xdrive too. It doesn't make you invincible but gives you that extra bit of piece of mind.

I used to have an Evolve tune - they didn't charge me to take it off but I'd imagine there's a cost to add it back on everytime. If you had something like BM3 or MHD then you could just do it yourself.

Drive in eco pro, I would only detune if your tune needs high amounts of e85, winter blends are garbage

Can I ask why you switched remaps to go with BM3?

Your build is an inspiration to many I'd guess, it is stunning! I also have a bluestone 540ix:

The main reason I switched was to have control over the tuning. After having my stage 2 tune with Evolve, I wanted to add a HPFP for stage2+. It meant having to go back and then paying for another tune to be put onto the car.

With BM3/MHD, you have complete control over what OTS tune you want to put on and control over settings such as burbles, cold start etc. In the long run it would save me money if I needed to make changes. I went with BM3 over the other ones as it seems to be the most popular and has a huge support network too.

Thank you for the kind words.

Your car looks great - Bluestone is such a good colour hey!
