Local Body Shop or Dealer for paint repair?

I live in zip code 22030 and need a paint repair at the moment. Someone bumped into my parked 540 and scratched my side doors. Any tips or guidance on choosing local body shop or dealer would be appreciated.

Hello There, Figured I would chime in here. I had a 4 year old decide to do a picasso on the fender of my M340i. Because it was Tanzanite I contacted my dealer who referred me to their authorise repair shop that was also approved by BMW NA. I was extremely happy with the paint job. Google "BMW Certified Collison Repair Center". see if there is one in your area. Chances are they might be more expensive than a regular body shop but it might be worth it for the peace of mind.
On a side note taking the X6 to the body shop I used to repair the 3 to get some dings and a slight damage to the front bumper repaired. Good luck

I would want to look at their work before commiting to anything. My experience has been that Usually independent auto body shops Do a better job. I am really picky And repaint of anybody panel is the absolute last resort solution for me. Tell them you are looking for a 100% match. You don't want this crap peeling or cracking six years down the road. Etc. BMW has a pretty good amount of orange peel on it, I'd want that matched as well. Their match should look good under sunlight and fluorescent light. I personally don't want to see tape marks around the seams etc.

It usually becomes an issue when you go to sell the car, people have no idea why the panel was painted and they assume the worst. Take pictures of the damage now. Store the pictures so if you go to sell it, you can show the potential new owner the extent of the damage. This way their minds won't go wild thinking the thing was T-boned

Can you post a pic of the damage?

I think it all depends on price and quality of service. Do some research and look at the work they did in the past if you can. I wouldn't necessarily go with the cheapest, I'd go with whoever does the best work and treats you right.
