I am in the middle of replacing my water pump. I have watched kern417 video on the procedure for his car. So far so good, got it out.

I noticed in his video that he didn't scrap off the old gasket from the mounting surface on the engine. Is that something I don't need to do or should I use a plastic scraper blade to get that out before installing?

Always remove all the old gasket if you want a good seal.
