Quibo (Drive Shaft)?
Dropped my car at the dealer for an inspection sticker and to have a look at the passenger massage seat function and just got this email:
Hi Joe, we definitely need it over night Something not related to your concerns is the quibo (drive shaft) is starting to have hair line cracks so we are replacing it Seems kind of random. She said it is not common but she has seen it before. Anyone have any experience here or know of causes for this? Maybe the dealer fishing for warranty work?

Seems common on BMWs Joe.
If you were in Europe I would send you one as I have a spare I purchased when chasing a different issue. Are you under warranty? Also make sure if they are taking the drive shaft apart they mark the linkages so it goes back exactly the same way. They are factory balanced, if the splines dont go back to exact position they were in you will have bad vibrations etc. Ask them to look at the CSB also as if the Guibo is letting go it may also have worn the CSB prematurely. ( bearing half way down the drive shaft? |

I was told I need to replace the guy I on my car at about 40K miles. However, they told me that the CPO warranty does not cover the guiro. Is this accurate? I’ve had one local BMW dealer cover something that another local BMW dealer said wasn’t covered, which is why I ask.

The dealer replaced the quibo right before selling me the car when they’ve done an inspection. No warranty, no CPO, 2018 M550i xDrive with approximately 41,000 miles at the time of replacement. My reasoning is that the excessive torque these engines produce can cause weaker parts along the driveline to fail after some time.

The other thing is if it is covered under CPO, they aren’t just going to replace it at 40k just because, it has to show some cracking or stress fractures.

I had mine replaced under warranty yesterday after the dealer noticed cracks and splits.
Didn't look too bad from the video they sent - just a few splits at the sides of the bolts, but still looked like it was holding together alright... However, now it's been replaced, the car has really tightened up - I hadn't noticed previously but the small amount of hesitation in the gear box and a slight lurch from the car when braking to a stop (which I thought were the brake pads getting old) have completely disappeared! Comfort is now super responsive and the issue I had initially gone in for which was a rotational noise linked to road speed that I assumed was a bent alloy or tire bubble is now gone too. I'm hoping it's not placebo as I hadn't actually expected it to change any of those things. I just started driving back from the service center and immediately was like "Oh, this is different?!". |

It's not quibo, but rather giubo- also known as a flexdisc. Often misspelled as guibo as well. This transfers the rotational torque from the driveshaft.
Unfortunate to hear these are failing in relatively low mileage vehicles. I would think these should last closer to 100,000 miles.

Old thread. I’ve learned all I ever wanted to know about the “Guibo” since I got the call from my dealer, wrote down whatever I thought she was telling me and posted this transcribed conversation into a thread. I now stick with Flex Disc 😂

I’m pretty sure the correct title is a Service Advisor. But you’re officially in the race for forum editor😂.

Add me to the list
Yep, my giubo is showing significant cracks at about 38k. OOW naturally. Oh well. Another thing to add to the list of "saving up money in case of." Gotta pay to play.
My question is did anybody have that transmission tune from xHP or any piggyback or DME flash on their car? I wonder if that accelerates the breakdown of the part. Also interesting is the post about improved, smoother takeoff and stopping. I must say I noticed it. Let's see if it gets better with the new giubo. |

No transmission tune. I’m pretty sure my Dinan tune wasn’t installed when I created this thread in 2021. Bone stock.
