Using existing cameras as "dashcam"?
is there any existing product out there to connect and record the video from the existing cameras in the car?
In doing some preliminary research, it would appear the front/rear/side cameras are connected via ethernet, not sure about the additional cameras up on the windshield. I am not sure the actual topology (how many switches are there, is it one single layer2 broadcast domain etc), but if these cameras are multicasting the streams so multiple modules can make use of the data, I feel like it should be possible to stick a small embedded computer (raspberry pi etc) and hook it up to one of the ethernet switches (that is seeing the traffic) via a 100base-t1 nic and record/implement some dvr functionality. I have purchased one of these odbII->ethernet cables which utilize what appears to be a standard 100base-tx exposed on the odb port, i will use it to just see how much is exposed at that point in the network. |
