I'm flattered that a Canadian is asking me about Canadian Whisky! This was 15 years ago so memories are fading. The Premium I remember was 100% rye, as such was full of warmth and spicey bite. The 10yo was a blend which was a little sweeter and much friendlier going down. I hope this helps.

Here are a couple of seven year olds that I picked up over Christmas. I'm enjoying them both, especially the Flor De Cana. I love it's lack of sweetness.Name: 20200111_144459 (Medium).jpg

I've only recently conceded that as great as beer tastes it's best left for summer bbq, and that whiskey is a better option to wind down after the week. Before, whiskey was a mixer for me only

I have no problem with that, I'd never drink Vodka neat/up/rocks, even though there are myriad that are high enough quality to do so. Each to their own.

What are your criteria for "being worthy" of drinking a spirit unmixed?
Perhaps "being worthy" was an aggressive description, but unless I just have never had the opportunity to try the right one, traditional Scotch or Irish whiskeys are just much smoother.

That's weird. I tend to drink bourbon when I'm looking for a simple, smooth drink and Scotch or Irish when I'm looking for something more complex and scarier.

Funny, I'm about to go in the opposite direction. A master brewer friend of mine is brewing me up 5 gallons of IPA. It's fermenting now. I won't be drinking whiskey for a while after my current bottle of P12 is gone.

I'm not a big drinker of straight spirits myself. If you're not careful you can wipe yourself out quicksmart. Plus it's so hot over here for 9 months of the year it's not really an option. Late at night after work (I work arvo shift), I might indulge in a pour of an aged rum , scotch or a rum/port combo but other than that I generally mix.

I am not sure McKenna belongs in that lineup! Nice choices. I want to get my hands on a Toasted barrel but I have never seen one. I do enjoy the 1792 FP and the MWND though!

So, it was finally the right time to open the Durango.

I decided on neat with some orange zest. A very unique smoke flavor, very very smooth. Its something special for sure.

cheers
