Ambient Air retrofit
Has anyone done this? This option is not available for the G30 in North America, but can be ordered in other parts of the world. So the parts must exist.
I know most people don't give a rats ass but I quite like the idea.....hoping others also looked into it. |

I was expecting a bunch of little trees comments....
 The amount of research and attention to detail BMW puts into the scents is overkill but that is exactly why I want it. In-house developed, by people who are aligned with the philosophy of their cars. |

I have to say this option was my least favoured one but it came with a pack I was getting anyway. I have to say I really like it now. There is a really pleasant scent in the car that is not overpowering like air fresheners are. It almost just keeps that 'New Car smell' persisting for longer.

It's available in the U.S. as a special order item. You need to have your sales advisor go through a VIP ordering specialist to get it added to your order. You need to have 4 zone climate control added as a prerequisite. So $500 for 4 Zone 4NB and $320 for the ambient air package 4NM.

Yes, like anything, it can be retrofitted, just depends on if the cost/labor is worth it to the person. Being in the US myself, I had researched this a couple months ago for if/when I get a G30 in early 2019. (I say "if" because I'm also partly leaning towards the new X5)
All parts are available from either US sites or Schmiedmann, with one exception, the covering for the Ambient Air module in the glove box. Essentially, you would need to remove(at least partly) the dashboard from the car as it would require you to replace the front air duct behind the dash and install the Ambient module. You most likely (can't tell for sure if it's required) would also need to install the ionizer system in this process as well. Also, if you don't already have the 4-Zone climate control and want the fancier HVAC display, you would need to replace that as well. Cost-wise, you're looking at around $950.00 depending on if you buy the Ambient Air Module, ionizer, and HVAC display(if needed) on eBay and find a good deal instead of paying brand new price. I was lucky and found an Ambient Air module for $200 which came with the trim piece, so I went ahead and bought it even though I don't have the car yet lol. I've seen the ionizer on there for around $150 (new is around $215), and the 4-Zone Display for around $350. Don't forget, you also then have to buy the Ambient Air cartridges (not factored into that $950) and those cost a pretty penny as well. |

I just got unpleasantly surprise by the price of cartridges.
Around $50 per piece! One cartridge lasts ~2 months, so you end up paying ~ $25 per month for this, seriously WTF... |

$50 per cartridge refill? Seriously? What are they smoking?
Not worth ripping apart your dashboard for this junk and add rattles and other problems. I use the BMW air freshener sticks with the adaptor that clings to the air vent and works great.
