1. Not sure about this. But my guess is heating element since it draws quite a lot of power.
2. Yes, you can start and stop heating or cooling from the app. But you can’t adjust the temperature via the application. The heater draws enough power to drain the hybrid battery once it starts, but once it gets up to temp it relaxes and the battery stays charged. I usually start it 15 minutes early. |

In the morning my car is usually still plugged in, this I see no drain.
I notice that I get more electric range in the summer when I'm not using the heater. I doubt the car uses heat pump, otherwise it would be more prevalent in the marketing materials.

OK, I haven't had the car while it is warm outside, so I'm only using the heating when I start a acclimation. Here is no "stop heating" in the app as far as I can see.

My home charging station can supply a max. of 2200W and I can see if the car is fully charged and I start up the heater, the power taken by the charger is the full 2200W, indicating that the Auxiliary Heater is consuming more than than 2,2 KW while running. Once it get warm again in Denmark, it will be interesting to see how much power is consumed by the cooling. BTW it is quite disappointing if the heating is done by ordinary heating element (which I suspect now) as the AC should by able to generate the heat by reversing and to a fraction of the power consumption.

Output is up to 5.5kW, +/- 10%. Easy to see how it will reduce EV mileage, even if connected at the lower home charger rate. |

In my experience you need to pump in a lot of heat, to get a freezing cabin up to a reasonable temperature. If too slow, the heat loss will be so great there won't be much headway in warming the cabin. I preheat my car, with an electric fan heater on cold days. The 2kW output is only just enough to get reasonable thawing and a bit of cabin warmth after about 30 minutes. I can easily see how you need 4 - 5kW to get decent preheating in 15 minutes or so. |

Furthermore, as heat pump becomes less and less effective at colder temperatures, it would probably only generate very little heat at sub-zero temperatures.
