2021 530e price parity gone
First data says that the LCI 2021 530e will cost $3K more than the base 530i. This brings the 5-series pricing in line with BMW's other PHEV's pricing higher than the base model. I always thought pricing the 530e the same as the 530i made it a deal very hard to go past when the Fed Tax Credit reduced my cost by $5-6K. So much so that I bought two 2020 530e sedans in Dec and Jan. I'll be replacing these sedans with full EV's so I'm happy with the little price boost this change in pricing may give my trade-ins when the time comes.

Yeah BMWUSA pricing suggest it is gone. Glad I got in wit MY2020 as the price parity made the e a great option, as you noted.
What I found more interesting is they boosted the price, but the LCI doesn't have the rumored larger battery pack or full size gas tank added. So it is a worse value than the MY2020 unless the 40HP for 10 seconds of "Xtra Boost" is worth the price jump. |

Meanwhile Tesla is lowering their pricing overnight...lol
Kinda wanted an 545e which is probably not coming to the US market? Last edited by LOW4LYF; 05-27-2020 at 11:29 AM.. |

Yep - I am seriously considering a Tesla this time (the new pricing makes it even a harder decision), although I am so loyal to BMW and really enjoy the 5.

From the specs the range on the MY2021 530e will likely come in lower than the MY2020 530e due to the increased HP rating and no bump in battery capacity to counter it. CA increased their range requirement in 2020 to qualify for the carpool sticker to be over 30 miles of range if memory serves me. |

I am currently in the market and check the page once a month. Edit: Are you saying the facelift don't get the carpool sticker? |

But perhaps I'm off. I'll search for it later, but it should be in my post history discussion wise. I didn't think BMW would let it slide out due to how popular the 530e is in CA (and CA is over 50% of the model sales in the US), but perhaps they are limiting their investment until a full refresh and hoping the 330e and X40e are better roads to pursue for now. |

So my 530e can still drive in the car pool lanes. It would have been a tough choice if BMW made the 545e available in the US but BMWNA made my choice easy. |

Can anyone care to explain the new horsepower rating of the 530e? Its claim to have 288hp, with a combination of 180hp from the ICE and 107hp from the electric motor. However, the model I have (2018) claims to produce 248hp from a combination of 180hp ICE and 111hp. It doesn't add up to me, and it probably doesn't really matter, but inquiring minds want to know.

Not sure how much of a battery hit it would entail to get that boost. I am sure reviews will share it soon. A nice feature I'm sure, but the current 530e isn't bad during passing |

I was debating with myself about waiting for the LCI, expecting a battery size increase to mesh with what I thought would be the new CA carpool range reqm't. Consultation with the other posters on this forum convinced me that the battery size increase was unlikely, so I went ahead with the second 2020 530e. The first one (wife's) was a replacement for a leased X5 40e that BMW took back early because of 5 failures of the air bag system, so I was always in for one of the 2020's. Glad now that I jumped on a 2020 dealer stock at a great price in Jan. At first I thought that the HP boost for the LCI was BMW putting in a higher output 4 cyl, but when it became apparent that it was an overboost to the electric motor, I had no regrets about not having it in my 2020's. The 4 cyl in the 530e is very derated, compared to some of the other BMW applications, so there is certainly room for more HP. As it is, it's a very unstressed 4-cyl that should be good for 250,000 miles. I just did a run to the outer burbs in my car and it was the first time the engine had run, since I took delivery. The EV range is such for my in-town use that I have never had to start the engine.

I'm not missing the HP boost in the LCI though because they did it by force overrunning the electric motor. Which is nicer from a torque perspective, but without a battery bump would take a decent hit to the battery range. Which isn't amazing as is. I think it would have been better to increase ICE HP since they left the battery unchanged. |
