Some one turned in my license plate!

Just some sharing guys. I tried to renew my registration today and couldn't figure out why it says "info not found". Called my dealership and found that someone has turned in my license plate

What does it suppose to mean? Someone reported me for speeding or something? lol

$20 says MVA flagged your registration for something. Taxes, insurance violation, unpaid tickets or something like that.

"Turned in" a plate? I would think that meant that they physically returned it to the DMV.

They wouldn't say the plate was "turned in" if that was the case.

You can't "turn in" a plate unless they took them off the car and physically handed them in. PA plates must be handed in or mailed in. So I'm assuming OP still has his plates on his car and someone used the term "turned in" casually and/or incorrectly.

Not even sure why the dealer would have plate/registration info after the sale.

I still have the plate in my car today, driving around.

I called PA dmv and they said the license plate is "dead" last month since someone turned that in, and the car has no one titled to it.

When I said "I'm still driving my car right now, with that dead license plate", the customer service freaked out lol

They say they're investigating and will contact me in 3 business days. How stressfull

If the DMV said your plates are dead, I wouldn't drive your car until this gets sorted out. If you get pulled over without legal plates on the car, your stress level is going to sky rocket. You catch the wrong cop in the wrong mood and watch out.

They freaked out because if you have an accident, your Insurance will not cover you....nor them.

Imagine the car gets totalled, you get $0 from Insurance and you still owe full amount to Lender.

Or God forbid it's your fault and medical & damages are six figures that you are personally on the line for (as well as paying lender for your car).

LOL and happy dance now?

Correct. Go stream a couple of episodes from the 1st or 2nd season of "Parking Wars". Philadelphia PPA impound segments almost invariably have someone trying to get a car out of impound with some insurance or plate suspension issue.

I'd ignore the doom and gloom advice. Possession is nine tenths of the law. Since you have the plates in your possession the mistake is obviously the DMVs, not yours, and their responsibility to fix. If you run into a problem as a result then you get to engage in another popular American pastime: hire a contingency lawyer and sue the living crap out of them.

Yeah.....good luck with that possession is 9/10ths of the law when a cop pulls you over for something. They are not gonna give two shits about that. All they are gonna know is they run the plate and it comes back as dead.

Bare minimum you will end up with a ticket. Most likely you'll get towed and a ride to your nearest jail.

So ignore the doom and gloom advice at your own risk OP. Good luck.

I have a letter from dmv stating that there is an issue with my registration. Will it help?
