M550: thinking of going from staggerd 245 and 275 to square 245

Qq. My 2020 m550 has staggered 20” 245/35 up front and 275/30 in the rear (factory set up). What impact to performance and comfort do you think I’ll have going to 19” square set up with 245/40 all around?

I am looking for more comfort, so strongly considering 19”, but thinking of the pros/cons of going for staggered 19” 245/40 up front and 275/35 rear vs a square set up with 19” 245/40 all around.

Thanks for the input.

I go between square 19" 245/40 in the winter and staggered 19" 245/40+275/35 in the summer. I've never noticed a significant difference in ride comfort between the staggered and square setups. I would make that decision based on other factors like cost vs. performance vs. "wow factor" of staggered wheels.

As you stated, switching from 20" to 19" wheels will noticeably improve your ride comfort. So will switching from RFT tires to non-RFT if you're comfortable doing that.

Finally, you can probably also code in "Comfort Plus" driving mode. That makes my ride noticeably softer than Comfort, although it also makes the car more squishy.

Bottom line to remember that there are several choices beyond just wheel size that determine your ride quality. Feel free to pick and choose whatever makes the best combination for you.

I'm also considering switching out of 20" staggered to 19" square. Mainly to help reduce the road noise and bonus to absorbing small road imperfections better.

Might pull the trigger next winter since I still have 6-7/32 tread on my DWS 06+ tires.

OP: I'm running a square setup on my '22 M550i w/ 19x8.5 wheels and 245/45/19 tires. I wanted 19s to get more meat on the sidewalls with the 245/45s and been running this for over a year. No rubbing, very comfortable ride, and peace of mind with the meatier sidewalls for potholes and whatnot. I would highly recommend.

I think a lot of it comes down to your roads where you live. I live in an area in Texas where the roads are nasty. So I'm happy with my 19's. I have 20's but I doubt ill use them unless I decide to go to track day.

Thank you all for the answers!

Rocket455 isn’t your speedometer/odometer reading incorrectly since 245/40R19 is the right tire size per spec (not 245/45R19)?

My SWAG using using local radar posts and glancing at the speedo says it reads about 1mph or so slower than the actual speed, a compromise that I can live with.
