Any way to reduce the high-speed side-windows wind noise?

Or am I the only one who thinks it’s excessive? Not whistling, but buffeting sounds above, say, 65mph. Wish they offered acoustic glass for the G30! Thanks.

You could try using a thin bead of black silicon around the join of the door mirror and it's shell. Worked for me. Not perfect but an improvement. Cost is almost zero and if you don't like it, peel it off

This is the only reason I'm not considering buying my vehicle at lease end. Fantastic vehicle with an unfortunate design flaw!

Honestly, never noticed it.
But I've been told by BMW SA's that mirror wind noise is a common thing if you notice it - and it's much less in an M car (now he could just be shitting me...)

I listened for this on my way to work this morning, after reading this thread. My drive is 10 minutes @ 75mph plus 10 minutes @ 45-55 mph.

I didn't notice anything other than what I would call wind rush. I can hear air passing over the car but I don't hear any buffeting. With the radio on, it's a non issue for me. Even with the radio off, I think the car is exceptionally quiet in the cabin. Maybe go drive another G30 and see if you notice it?

The only time I hear buffeting is if I have the front windows down without the rear windows down, which I think kind of sucks. Even with all the windows down, the wind seems to smack you around a little bit if you're driving at those speeds, more so than other cars I have owned.

Never noticed it, can't hear any wind noise that's louder than the road/tire noise.

Had this issue on another car, E34 perhaps? It was the mirror housing.

I have had 4-5 loaner G30's. All have the noise. I have taken the entire mirror assembly apart. I have replaced the gasket/foam in the area where the mirror mounts to the car. I have taped every seam on the left side of the car to see if I could isolate an alignment issue. No difference.

I'm sure it's because the rest of the car is so quiet. The air over the mirror is more noticeable because it's about the only noise. For those saying the noise is no more than the tire noise: the difference is the frequency of the noise. Apparently some of us are more sensitive to the mid/upper range noise generated by the wind as opposed to the lower frequencies of the tires.

The aggravating part of this is my wife's lowly Acura MDX has acoustic glass on the driver and passenger side - at a lower price point. The difference is very noticeable when switching vehicles.

The best way to hear it is to drive at 55-60 mph, then quickly accelerate (for example passing) to the upper 60's to mid 70's. That air on the left side of the car should not be as noisy as it is.

To me, no acoustic glass is just a tacky way for BMW to differentiate a 540 from a 750 (the lowest model that does acoustic glass in the sedan lineup.)

Thanks so much for confirming what I’ve noticed since day one. I’m not crazy! Wish the noise could be mitigated since it diminishes my interest in purchasing the 540 after the lease ends.

These cars are so quiet any sounds can be annoying. I took mine in for this complaint a week ago. The dealership replaced the outer shell of the drivers side mirror. Problem solved.

Dealership fixed mine with a new mirror cap and gasket. These cars are soo quiet you could hear a pin drop so any sounds are annoying.

Does it have a different part code or shape? Or yours was damaged? How did it solve that?

Would like to learn more! Also like to see a picture of someone who 'created beads' (above).
