Also, consider that the sensatec is an artificial product that evolves rapidly. I experienced it the first time on my E91 back then in 2007 and it was ok. But I remember after a few years it cracked in the bolstered sport seats leg and lumbar supports. The 520d F10 I had after that was already more durable (around 2011). I skipped with another F10 with dakota, but wasn't really impressed with the extra look and feel (actually, you couldn't tell which one was best). And now my G01 2019 has sensatec again. No doubt it has been massively improved and also made more durable. After 40k miles no signs what so ever of wear and tear: just still looks brand new. This is the fabric of the future, no doubt.

Interesting thread. I didn't even consider Sensatec in my g30 because I had a friend with Sensatec in his F30. It was super hot and sticky in the summer. It was a horrible material.
I had Dakota in my F25 and loved it, so I just went with that again in my g30 (super happy with it fwiw). I'm not a "real leather" snob. Lexus NuLuxe and MB-Tex are fantastic imho. I should have tried to check out a Sensatec g30 as it seems things have changed. One thing I will say though is that I generally dislike very soft materials (even my clothing tends to be tougher materials). I like the way that Dakota feels a little bit rougher. |

They may have material issues impacting them thanks to the pandemic year like many other components, but I doubt you’d see them culling this altogether. For many buyers in this space it is considered a must have so culling it would be delivering easy business to Mercedes or Audi. And I say that as someone who is more than happy with synthetic material in this area. |

My 2015 F30 had Dakota and my 2018 G30 has Napa. Dakota has a pebble grain and feels much stiffer than the smooth, softer Napa. My wife's Lexus has synthetic leather, like SensaTec, and it is fine but you can tell it isn't real leather if you are used to the real thing. For a daily grocery and kid hauler, I'd recommend synthetic. If you want leather, Napa is the best of the two options.
