Rattle/creaking from around HUD on dash. Am I alone?
Just started a few weeks ago in my ‘19 540ixMsport. Mainly at lower speeds on rough roads. Know it’s only going to get worse. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Rattle/creaking from around HUD on dash. Am I alone?
Just bought a CPO 2018 540i xdrive. Had rattle around center of steering wheel/instrument cluster. It would happen 40+ mph on roughish/er roads. Tech friend thought it was either the force feedback shaker coming loose or the cover on top of the steering column coming out of its track. Ended up being a service bulletin for the hood latch cables vibrating and sound was transferring through the cabin. There is a clip he ordered to fix it. Hasn't happened since the clip was installed. Only been a week and a half though.

May be the dash speaker grill? I've had to press on mine from time to time when it bugs me.

I never had mine on high setting before or after service for the rattle. But in my case it rattled when set to low or medium. I'll test it with high setting though and post back in a few days.

OK. After 1200+ mi road trip. I've put 3k mi on it since I bought it with 11k.
No rattling from the vibration feedback on any setting. No rattle from rough roads in the 45ish MPH range anymore. Did discover a rattle from the dash at 75-90 MPH. Between the flat front of the dash and the top black cover that mates up to it. I put a piece of paper between them and it went away. Have a service appointment for a passenger restraint error that started. I'll see if there is anything for the dash then. But anyone else with a rattle/rubbing sound should check the top black part. I could stop the sound by touching the dash just above the speedo 12 o'clock area. |
