Pin striping, will the BMW purists approve?

Almost ten years ago when I lived in the Washington DC area, I found a guy “Jack of Arts” from Elliot City MD. who does paint pin striping freehand, he did a great job on a couple of my cars. I recently found out that he is planning a trip to my current home area in Chattanooga, TN.
While he is here, I am planning to have him stripe both of my Bimmers. I am looking for something conservative, not the traditional American Hot Rod style. Has anyone done striping on your rides and if so, could you post a few pics for inspiration?

I'd suggest vinyl. If you don't like it after some time, just peel it off

I can appreciate that, but I don’t see much artistic value in vinyl striping. For me, the idea would be to add a beautiful uniqueness to car.

Go ahead and go for it. It is your car and your taste. Given the Edsel grills, BMW is in no place to question anyone else's taste.

ok, posted on 4/6 so not an April fools - had to verify - j/k!

I love the subtle paint work on older Alpinas. Curious to see how it turns out - please share pics!

I’ll be happy to, but the painter has just lost his Mother so it is going to be a while.

It's your car and you should do what you want. Maybe a photoshop first? Personally, pin stripes seem SO 70's to me. Goes along with a Landeau roof, but hell, it's been a while since I have seen a pinstripe on a bimmer. My E30 had one in 1987.

I agree that it’s not often seen these days, that is part of what makes me like the idea. If done well and not over the top, I think stripes can make an already beautiful car even better.
