Best I got from an M340xi service loaner was 4.2, and best I could do on my 6MT 440xi with stage 1 BM3 tune was 4.64, and with stock tune was 5.58

So, definitely already a big upgrade in speed, but I want to get a fucking sub 3.6/3.7 run or two in.

Hope this helps other folks looking for some semblance of real world stats on the 2021's.
yea.. you are getting pretty much same numbers as i got. I feel exactly the same about being sub 3.7.. This is really weird, i thought BMW underrates their 0 to 60 not over rate it..

And since the figures I've seen on 100-200 km/h on autotopnl for the LCI model are very impressive(faster than the Alpina B5 and RS6) there seems to be enough with enginepower in the car. Just slow in the start.

https://www.automobile-catalog.com/p...0i_xdrive.html
In this simulation (don't know how they are calculating and if its correct) the numbers for 0-20mph is 0.9 seconds and in your runs 1.5 seconds. Seems to be in the start that car looses the time. Between 50mph and 80mph the car is in constant acceleration and gaining 10mph every second and from 80 to 100mph gaining 10mph every 1.5 second. Very impressive numbers to me.
You are exactly on point!!!! The car is very slow off the start, its as if the computer is cutting the power for like .5 secs then it gives it a little punch. I attached my Dragy 0 to 60 time below. I feel like 0-10 is where the car is struggling...

When I test drove a brand new 2021 540 and then jumped back into my 2019 540 which had around 14k miles at the time, my 540 felt noticably quicker.

I now have a 2021 M550 as my DD which looks similar to yours though I haven't floored it yet as I have only 260 miles on it you can tell this car is a beast.

Same issue here. ‘21 M550 with 3800 miles. The car has a noticeable lag from a dead stop that not only makes it feel slow but also throws off acceleration timing. Then, it becomes a missile

I'm. In NY as well. The M550i I am picking up in a month is from NJ.

The lag is frustrating, my 2017 Audi A6 with the supercharged 6 cylinder engine had zero lag, it was pretty amazing and almost stopped me from getting the 2019 540 back then because I was so used to that instant power, with time I got used to it to the lag.

With that said I currently have a loaner 2021 Macan S and I literally floored it to get onto the expressway today and I am telling you I could have counted to 3 before it finally took off ..

If you want to feel instant power you to have to drive a Tesla ... OMG they are insane !!

So i scheduled a service visit to BMW, and asked them to do a "break in service" and explained to them that it feels slow on the Launch Control first gear. They took it well, will be taking it in for service next week. Lets hope something changes after the service. Because the advertised performance numbers were the reason i chose this car. Fingers crossed!

Fyi, a friend of mine has an M850i and he does 3.5-3.6 with Launch Control stock.

Still slower than officials numbers. The M550i should according to Bmw go from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds and from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.8 seconds.

I was expecting numbers like the friends M850i is doing considering the that official acceleration times from Bmw mostly are conservative.

That's interesting, and I'm going to do something similar. I also have a burning smell a lot after medium to hard driving and it's been annoyingly consistent. Another friend with an M550i had the same smell but much worse and his coolant lines into the turbos are leaking.

Going to take mine into the service shop for that smell and these meh performance numbers in a bit. Would love to get this sorted before my new exhaust comes at the end of March...

I still want to try a dragy run or two with warmed up tires on a dry piece of road and see if that hets me the 3.4-3.8 I'm hoping for instead of the 4.0-4.2 I've done on wet roads and cold tires.

I think that it does actually do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, but people are getting 3.8 because the app or timing equipment people use, register 60 mph as 57 mph, and so you would have to go around 63 mph for it to register as 60 mph, therefore showing the wrong numbers on the app/timing gear.

Yes and No, there are people using the same tool on previous year before the facelift getting better numbers. Unfortunately there aren't enough entries for the 2021 models. Dropping the car off tomorrow i really hope that something changes after the service..

I just took my 2020 M550i with 1000miles and a full tank and did 2 very and quick brake boost launches with dragy. There is a slight pause once I release the brake and I was in sports+ and traction off.

I’m in Australia and numbers are (not sure how to add a screenshot).

21c
DA 532m
3.37% slope
0-100 4.22s
0-50 1.78s - 30mph is 48kmh
0-80 3.08s - equivalent to 50mph

I’m not using LC but that’s a fair bit off the claimed 3.8 but I’m guessing LC, less slope should do better.

So those numbers are better than the OP with time lost at launch and the increasing slope. My previous run had it at 4.4% on the same stretch as it’s not a consistent slope.

I’d agree the OP is losing time at the launch. The time between my 30mph and 50mph is 1.3secs which is similar.

I wonder if cold weather means it’s spinning and you can’t feel it?

Disappointed..

Update: i hate when things like these happen... i called my local BMW service center 2 weeks ago, no one ever called me back so i was forced to go there in person. When I went in person to BMW service i asked the service advisor, does the 2021 M550 have a break in service? They answered yes and scheduled me to do it.

Today i show up to that scheduled service, and the new service advisor tells me there is no such thing for M550s and it only applies to to M5. And basically gave me the look of wtf am i doing here? (I wanted to scream WTF!!!) I barely held myself from flipping out.. so i explained to them that the car is very slow off the launch with the first gear and that I want an oil change on top of that. I told them that i bought the car based on the advertised 0 to 60 time, which is no where close to what i was able to acheive. They took the car in, but i have a strong feeling nothing will change... I don't even know what to do at this point, i feel cheated i literally got sold based on those numbers...

BTW, i did do more 0 to 60s with Launch Control (before i took the car in for service) since i am above the 1200miles. I had quarter of a tank gas, car was warmed up, Launch Control activated (checkered flag) and best 0 to 60 was 4.1s!!!!

Got the vehicle back from BMW, guess what? Its still the same 4.2-4.3secs. Can't even get to 4s. But now i have another issue, my iDrive system is crashing randomly while driving. 🤦

Sorry to hear and to get a car back with more faults on it than when you left it to the dealer is really irritating! Where they looking for more horsepower in the iDrive system?
Did they say anything about the lack of performance from 0-60?

I have older M550 but thought I’d add that in the iDrive system there is an option to select tires, when I went in there it was set incorrectly. (Most likely because I requested dealer not to do anything except activate the car as North American). It took me half a year to notice it, when I changed it from the wrong tires which were something like 18” 4 season to 19” all summer I think it effected my off the line power… hard to say for certain. Could be a placebo effect, But maybe it’s worth a check if anything is limiting you.

Also, you may need summer tires and warmer weather to get the grip necessary for your cars best times. The current cold weather and all season tires are going to loose some degree of traction.

Good luck, and try to enjoy the car, it is amazing

My 2021 is an absolute dog coming out of corners. It's like 200HP. I have to drive with traction off (quick click of the button) in order to get this thing to be exciting.

It's fast AF, but it's fast AF when it wants to be.
