Let the sales Game Begin
Yesterday I started quoting a BMW 540i M Sport. So I have done the typical sit down at the local BMW dealer and now called another for competitive pricing.
I'm hoping for some help as I feel like I could get better discounts and I'm not sure about some of the fees or "polysteel" application. Any help would be appreciated! Here is the current offer; Market Value; 75,343 discount; 5,180 Price; 70,165 Polysteel Application; 499 All season Matts; 299 Wheel locks; 199 Total Purchase; 71,361 Trade Allowance; 24,000 Trade Difference; 47,361 Service Fee; 399 Tax; 2,698 Filing fee; 10 Title fee; 164.50 Reg Processing fee; 19.50 Net Price; 50,652.52 |

Around here we have lots of dealers, and they are all greedy and manipulative and you have to fight hard for a decent price.
Case in point: I just asked one for a quote on a new M550i, MSRP around 83K. They were willing to pass along a <cough> generous $2300 discount, after which they threw on another $1000 of useless crap like you just described including nitrogen and trunk mats. It's not only insulting, it's just rude. Now, they can make an argument for some of that crap if it's already on a car on the lot, but if you are ordering it, then you just say no. If it's on the lot, keep in mind that the cost on most of that stuff is about 50% of what they're charging, if not less. The $5180 discount isn't bad, I'll suggest. Right now, production is limited, my dealer has presold all of his 540i, none in stock, and can't get an allocation. Don't forget that if you join the BMW CCA (and meet the requirements) you can get a $1000 rebate on your new 5 series, aside from whatever deal you can swing.

If you are willing to travel or ship the car, Pacific BMW often has some stunning deals.

I'm used to all the fluff they add, I just nod and move on. I'll pull all that extra unnecessary overly priced stuff off after we have a final price.
Another dealer just came back with a much better deal only it's a custom order. MSRP; 76,685 Dealer savings; 4372 Factory rebates; 3000 Trade Allowence; 25,000 OTD; 59,527 Thats 9.6% plus another K on the trade. Makes the wait feel worth it. I'm waiting on two more quotes and then I'm going to start pushing back a bit harder. I'm not a member of the BWM CCA, I purchased a Subaru between my last BMW and this future purchase. Good advise though, thank you. I will sign up after I get the new one. |

A lease broker can get you around 10% off pre incentive discount for a 540i xdrive and that is what I did and I am not sure whether the discount will be different if you are purchasing instead of leasing but it might worth to give a try to find a broker on leasehackr.com to get you 10% off pre incentive and the broker fee is around 500. They give you all the number to your before you pay the broker fee. I guess it does not hurt to ask.

No plan to lease. It is an interesting concept though. I'll take a look. Thanks.
My problem now is that they have found a car that matches what I'm looking for. Only it has 20" Rims. Looks cool, but I live in the Midwest. WTF am I going to do with 20" Rims and performance tires? |

It's completely reasonable that negotiating yourself you can get 7-8% off the MSRP — which in your case is $5,275-6,030. You might be able to swing 8.5-10% in theory but some places that isn't doable or it could be a ton of work. A broker (doesn't have to be a lease) might be able to do 9-10% (before their fee) depending on where you are. That's a no hassle option if it works out. This is discount before any incentives like loyalty or conquest etc.
No idea what the trade is worth. Could be getting ripped off. Who knows. Check with Carmax, Carvana, etc. Finally, tell them to shove all that add on shit up their asses. 😀

And I think you need to be a member for a few months - check their website. I made that mistake too and didn't get squat. |

I also think you have to either prepay for a 3 year membership or you will have to wait a preset time before buying the car. I just went ahead and purchased the 3 years so I didn't have to wait. |

I appreciate the information. On the purchase front, dealerships in this area are closed on Sundays. Hoping to get better numbers on an available 540i, Black with Black interior, M sport, Luxury package, and shadow line. Looks super slick. Although it comes with 20" wheels, hope they don't affect ride quality too much and that they can survive beat up mid-western roads. |

Here is the car build and the deal I'm getting. No broker, maybe they can do better, but I'm not leasing and I'm pretty happy with it.

I wasn't out to get every feature, I didn't really need messaging seats, but I'd rather pay 1000 for message than 950 for 20" rims. My mind is on comfort, otherwise I would've gone for the M550i! The M550i is a blast to drive. I'm super jealous of all the M550i and M5s out there, but that would be a waste in the kind of traffic I'm typically in. |
