in 2020 when production of the F80/F82 has ceased, we will see the configurator come online to remind people of what they COULD have owned brand new.

It's because all initial build slots are coming to the UK- that's why our configurator has been online for a month. US deliveries are not expected until Dec 14.

That's b/c the SOP for the 2er was 11/13. Three months to build, ship, clear new model customs, and arrive at dealers 2/14 (end of February).

The 2er configurator went online the 2wk in Jan and residuals/MF followed a few days afterwards.

If the Ms follow the same timeframe, SOP is 3/14 (really today). Three months to build, ship, clear new model customs, and arrive at dealers 6/14 (end of June). My guess would then be that the configurator won't go live until 5/14 (mid-May?) with rates to follow a wk later.

Here's my prediction from when someone was questioning why 2ers are already showing up on lots when both the 2er and M3/4 debuted at the same time...

Looks like BMW is making some changes to the configurator. Today noticed the M5 is gone for some odd reason, maybe just maintenance but could also be some updating that includes adding the F8x. Will check again on Monday.

yes, I see that too. You can't "build your own" an M5 now.

And it's not just the M5 that's missing, but all 5 series for what that's worth.

One thing about the F8x configurator and it's launch in general: this is the first and only MY2015 BMW for which we have any information at all. Even the just-released 2 Series is an MY2014. So if we look at the bigger picture, maybe there are other 2015 models coming around the same time as the M3/M4, such as perhaps the 3 Series and 4 Series (they are built on the same line, after all). If that's the case, it could be that they are planning to time the marketing efforts for all 2015 models to be roughly in sync. This would mean waiting to update the website until they are ready to start advertising the MY2015 models. And that in turn would be dependent upon stock of MY2014 models and other such considerations. That's a lot of "ifs" but it's just some thoughts.

But how would you think that would be a good business move knowing people are lined up to order a car that costs a good deal of money, and the car will be derived only from paper explanations of options and packages???

I just went and test drove a C63 yesterday.

Not sure if you were addressing me with that question. But, if you were, don't get me wrong, I am not passing judgement on whether it is a good business decision. Just trying to suggest a possible rationale for the timing.

Yeah Greg, I said "3/14 (really today)" when I posted it on 2/27
Anyway, the rest of my prediction was way off, at least with regards to the lease rates which were released yesterday
