This is my Corinthian. He is a 14-month old labradoodle. I, in no way, wanted another fur baby after the loss of Beaumont (my nine year old poodle) but Corinthian came to me as a 9-month rescue who I was helping a friend to rehome. When no one reached out to take him, I decided to keep him a little longer as opposed to bringing him to a shelter. During that "little longer" period, we bonded and have been inseparable ever since. He is pup-fection. 🐶

My wife and I had the day no pet owner wants to have; we had to let go of our nearly 16 yr old boy, Blaze. Kidney disease and a few mini-strokes finally made it untenable for him to continue.

Here he is sleeping before we carried him to the car for his last car ride (in the M550i). We're miserable. It's fucking brutal.

Jesus, I am so sorry for you buddy. My heart aches for you guys. Makes me sad thinking about this day for my guy.

It’s honestly not fair that a dog lives such a short life and ages before your eyes and a fucking turtle lives 100 years.

I hope I can get to 16 years.

My condolences I still weep for my boxer I put down 40 years ago after 10 glorious years. We grew up together my best friend next to my dad.

Gizmo is a 13yo Bugg (Boston Terrier and Pug mix) who goes for a few rides each day. His favorite ride is in summer on a cool night with the windows down and heated seat on with trips by nearby rivers or ponds. Gizmo believes he's a Labrador retriever since he was raised around 3 bronze age type of yellow labs who were happy swimming through the day or zooming around in 3 degree weather with chunks of ice on their coat

I’m contemplating a German Shepherd on the next round. Youngest will probably be 2-4 years old. Just have to decide how committed I can be socializing and training. I had two growing up. Never had a problem with one being aggressive with kids but it is something to consider.

I’d like to get a lazy British Lab but the GSD would be better for deterring would be intruders or protect the wife and kids on a walk. Unfortunately, that’s more and more a factor here.

They are such a rewarding breed. Just so loyal and off the charts smart. This is my second one. Both have been fantastic with kids. This guy is my first dog post divorce. I had to leave my last GSD behind and he passed a while ago. He was the product of a puppy mill and he had some fear aggression. When there was a male stranger at the house like my pool guy, he couldn’t be trusted to not nip them. This was more a result of bad breeding and being taken from his mom too early.

I knew that someday I would get another and do it right. Frisco’s is West German and his parents are actually from West Germany with champoin lines. The breeder was outstanding and I made sure I spent plenty of time with his parents before pulling the trigger. I brought him home at 8 weeks and had him sitting, heeling and placing in a week. I took to the an outdoor mall close by every night. You can imagine how much attention a puppy GSD gets. That helped socialize.

At the same time, they are protectors by nature. He certainly protects the house and I know if anyone tried to harm us he would take care of that pretty quickly. He has an incredible temperament overall though. I take him everywhere, including the dog park and daycare.

Labs are great family dogs, but once you’ve had a shepherd it makes you realize how much smarter they are than dogs like labs and retrievers.

British Labs are great because most are happy to work or be lazy on their owners schedule. That’s a pretty nice trait when you’ve got a busy family. But GSD are so cool. They’re beautiful and it would make my wife feel better when I’m not home.

Socializing would be pretty easy where we live. Always neighbors and other dogs out and about, daycare close by, and a couple restaurants we could have him at on the patio. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to consistently do the obedience training. But I’ll figure that out then. My girls still have a couple good years left, I hope! They’re rescues so I don’t know exactly but I think they’re around 11-12.

I had a GSD growing up. Such a great breed! Even now, if I got a pup, it would be a GSD or a husky. But I can't deal with shedding and hair in every nook and cranny anymore and the hypoallergenic breeds are a no-go, plus I travel a lot, so unfortunately it's unlikely I'd get one when I can't give it sufficient attention. Everytime I see one though, I want one.

Love Shelties. We miss our two boys so very much. My wife and I both said “the house seems so empty when we come back and there’s not a dog to greet us”.

We’d live a GSD but more and more homeowner’s policies are getting breed prejudice.

We will get a couple rescue something or other (long hair as short hair causes allergies for us) after some travel is done. We want to spend some time in NZ and Australia and that’s not a weekend visit.
