Passanger restraint failure
I have moved on from phantom seat belt warning to this new warning. Why have these vehicles not been recalled with passanger seat problems.
Airbag off light came on with this new warning |

It's pretty widespread. The passenger seat is a mess. There are two issues almost everyone has at some point. The false passenger seatbelt warning or the passenger restraint system malfunction message. The first is solved by zip tying some wires under the seat, the second requires a sensor mat replacement. There is a TIS on both.

Have a similar issue that the rear passenger seatbelt just snaps out of the lock if you jerk it moderately hard. And this is on the 3 series…
Its dangerous, imagine you or your passenger doesnt know about it and you get into an accident, the passenger might get severely injured or even die because the seatbelt comes lose… |

Unfortunately, BMW isn't likely to voluntarily issue the recall. However, if enough people report the problem to NHTSA, NHTSA could investigate and take action, forcing a recall.
On the plus side, if NHTSA does force a recall, then BMW should issue refunds to people that have already paid out of pocket. nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem

My warning was not continues and showed off like 3 times in the past year and I never had in the last 2 months. When I took in for service last week and I have mentioned about this the warning stayed ON the moment I picked it up and doesn't go off I reported it to NHTSA. |

As I’d push back hard if you’re under the new car warranty and BMWNA is suggesting this isn’t covered. On an extended warranty it will be up to what that policy states, of course. I don’t believe BMW has offered a special extended warranty in this case like they did with the grill fins. |

Your dealer is probably just making you aware that they could open it up and there are scenarios where it won't be covered. All this said, a good SA will go to bat for you. Some dealers are just pricks, but they do have to send the pad into BMW NA as part of the warranty claim and if BMW NA declines it on findings, the dealer doesn't get paid.

I had my pax seat mat replaced under warranty about a year ago just before the warranty wore off, it helped quite a bit with the warning msg popping up, there was a few times it would pop up and go away every few seconds constantly chiming at me... Anyways, replaced mat and it still happens like once a month, but not nearly as severe as before, when it comes on it seems to be because it is getting conflicting signals from multiple sensors in the seat, some say there is a person sitting there and others say there is not and it gets confused, gives up, and throws the fault. When I get it I push down on the pax seat and usually it goes away for about a month.
