Has anyone had BMW perform the backup camera recall yet? I'm about to go in for my M550i's first maintenance and a new tire. I was wondering if it was a complete system upgrade or it just a tweak to the backup camera app. No big deal either way. Just curious if I will have recode some of my items and widescreen CarPlay. The service advisor I spoke with said we could skip the recall if I wanted to. Thank you.

I had a complete software update. I had to redo all my custom computer settings such as the Alpina display.

Cool. That's what I figured. Thank you.

I can vouch for the same on my G01 X3. Everything got reprogrammed, but mine got laid up because when they tried to reprogram the car, the Roof module and the Headlight switch crashed and had to be replaced.

That sucks, but at least it happened while it was in their custody!

What back-up camera recall?

When my car went in for a service, I mentioned that the camera would intermittently not work, along with the low coolant warning issue.

The dealer did a software update (increased the iStep version) but did not say anything about there being a recall for the camera issue... this was a couple of months back.

FYI, my coding was also wiped (Alpina cluster was the only main change I had done), as well as the short cut buttons on the centre console.

It has to do with you being able to switch off the backup camera when you're still in reverse. It's a safety issue.

Should be a full iStep level upgrade. Make sure dealer has downloaded latest v4.20.34 of ISTA. BMW has had problems for ages with these upgrades. Everything from failed programming to modules that die during programming, to new bugs introduced due to sketchy BMW software engineering. Always a crap shoot.

I'm sure they ironed out some of those issues due to how many millions of vehicles are part of this recall. Thanks.

The current ISTA update for iDrive 6 is firmware "S". I've already heard of some issues with "S" so it's likely "T" is in development or testing.

And with the initial release of 4.20.x dealers couldn't successfully program some models.

BMW car IT group seems to fix a few things while breaking a few more. It's a real sh*t show and sometimes a frustration for shop foremen who are stuck working with TSARA cases to resolve programming foul ups.

I thought this was a US only recall? i.e. other country deem that scenario ok

when I went to mine it was a full update as well.

I believe it is only a US recall because it doesn't meet US federal safety guidelines.

You must had just missed the cutoff. I wasn't subject to this recall as my MY2020 530e was produced on 9/3/2019 and the cars produced before this date are subject to the recall. I checked as I was curious as to why I didn't have a recall hold when I picked up in 10/5.

What NBTEvo version are you running with this recall update? I'm currently on R without having the recall completed but I also want to get non OEM lifetime CarPlay coding which currently only works thru version R not S.

Got mine done and same 19-07-555 integration level as before update. So tune I had prior to update worked after the camera recall update

When my G30 530i had its software updated, the iStep version went up to S15A-19-07-533

This was in September this year, in the UK.

After a few days of digging around the bush my 2020 model (and I believe all 2020's, unless someone else can confirm otherwise) is not capable of OTA software upgrades therefore I'm not able to check any software versions including NBTEvo version. I am able to call BMW Genius and have them check if my software version for iDrive is up to date or not. mind boggling.

As before it's in navigation under software update. Mine was upgraded in October to S. One of two improvements eg stop start now works properly in eco pro w/o cutting the engine too soon.
