Scratches on the Instrument Cluster
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I noticed that my instrument cluster has scratches on it. Those scratches are noticeable when the sun hits the instrument cluster, other that they are not noticeable. Do you guy know anyway I can remove them? I have attached 2 pictures of it. Last edited by Zeroheight; 08-09-2019 at 07:24 PM.. |

Looks like pictures didn't attach properly. Do you have any idea how the scratches came about? My car is nearly 2 years old but no scratches on the instrument cluster so far. Not been overly protective either.

It looks like they had the car washed by some cheap place that used a dirty cloth. Maybe a small piece of sand in it or something.
Not sure if there is a way to remove a scratch like that. |

It might be possible to polish it but even if that is possible, probably a specialist detailer would be who you are looking at. Awkward to get to aswell which doesn't help.
Suspect you may have to put up with it , the cost to replace will undoubtably be 4 figures |

I’d just leave it. You might screw up your display by overpolishing to get the scratches out.
Bugs me how people can treat a car so badly. I have bought lease returns in the past, but stopped since it was hard to find a car that wasnt trashed by the lessee |

Thank you all for the suggestions! Y'all definitely correct that it's not worth ruining the instrument cluster over it! Will just have to live with it😞

Those scratches are in the anti-glare coating that is applied to the display.
To remove them, you have to remove the anti-glare coating. That is not something you want to do, you will be surprised just how glossy it will be without it and how much harder it will be to see the display in sunlight. I have done it myself on numerous other screens with anti-glare coatings, but I wouldn't want the end effect on anything in my car where I can't control the sunlight. As annoying as it is, the best option is to live with the scratches because you still have a useable display. If you have the cash, look to replace the display unit with a used one in better condition. |

Looks like the previous owner used a Brillo pad to clean the cluster
