G30 BM3 Tuning
Looking at some tuning options for my 18 M550i. Has anyone loaded the BM3 tune? If so, what were your gains and are you happy with it? Also, which method did you use to complete the tune; Mobile App or Laptop - did the tune go smoothly?

BM3 for the n63tu2 has been "coming soon" for almost 2 years now, I have a feeling it took a backseat in terms of priority as bm3 is out for cars/motors that came out way after the 2018 M550i; since this motor is discontinued now i won't be surprised if it never comes out.

I do have bootmod3 for M550i as I'm one of their beta testers for a stage 2 car. But yeah they need to get the logging working which they still haven't. Busy with higher priority stuff. They will ask me to bring my car in as soon as they got time. I'm not holding my breath on it. If you want a good tune just go for dme/Jb4

To save others wasting time, money, and missing out on sales, BM3 *still* does not have a working tune for N63Tu2/N63R (2018-2019 M550):

And for N63TU2 ‘18 M550 reach out to Mission. Talk to Alex, I’m sure he can make it happen.
Great flash tuner. https://missiontuning.com/bmw-engine...lash-tune.html

Ended up going with rktunes. BM3 was so blatantly dismissive of my concerns that I decided it was best I do not do business with them, which is a shame, because I thought they were offering a cool product.

If you have 2018-2019 model they released support about a week or so.
I would definitely go with Bootmod3 over any other BMW tuning option due to the fact they have the most experience and users using their tunes since 2016 days. https://www.bm3tuning.com/g30/bootmod3-n63t2 If you have 2020+ Model, https://www.bm3tuning.com/g30/bootmo...550-m850-x5m50 You can log your car stock and post tune, see how it's running, switch maps 1 minute via your phone or laptop I would not waste my time or money with piggyback or other canned/blind tunes. |

Unfortunately their internal communication with their company is so poor that I would not advise anyone to deal with them. I also specifically see commentary about them abandoning updates on many platforms. I suspect the N63R will be one of the engines that they neglect due to the seemingly low volume of production.
I went back and forth with them for days and they assured me they had no idea when or if they would provide a supported tune. My experience with rktunes has been completely opposite, and while their flash method is archaic, the tune functions as it should, and they have been very responsive to inquiries and questions that I have.

I was thinking about a tune for my M550 but this paragraph from a Motor Trend review gives me pause:
"The transfer case is also almost identical, featuring a clutched power takeoff that generally biases torque to the rear, but it can apportion front/rear torque from 0/100 to 50/50. In the M5 application the case gets reinforced output flanges, and the front and rear prop shafts are reinforced, though they are still made of steel. But work began on the M5 and its M xDrive all-wheel-drive system after the M550i xDrive was under development, so the M5's unique unified powertrain/driveline/ABS/stability-control computer with its five drive modes did not get developed for the M550i." Anybody else concerned about overpowering the X-drive system? https://www.motortrend.com/news/2018...-m550i-xdrive/ |

Realistically is adding this tune to a car still under factory warranty or under a CPO warranty going to get flagged and have the warranty voided or if I put it back to stock when it goes in for service and I pretty much fly under the radar?

Carbahn has a warranty, but it's "only" matching the original BMW warranty so if you have an older car, there won't be much left. At the same time, they don't have anything available for the 2021s or newer. When I had my 21 X5, they kept telling me it's almost ready. That was a year ago and still nothing is out. Blatant lies Lastly, from my experience their customer service is atrocious! I actually purchased their tune for my M2C and they blatantly lied about it being compatible without needed to ship the DME. I had to ship the tuning tool back to them for a refund and went with BM3, which not only gave me an amazing power increase, but their customer support was 10x better! |
