Is this for real guys? I just got a G30 yesterday and decided to ask about the exhaust option. This is the email I got back from BMW. To people that has gotten this option, does it really cost this much? Thank you in advance.
"Thank you for contacting BMW ***** for the new exhaust for your 2017 540i. I have included both of the exhaust tips in the estimate bellow. As you can see there is about a $500.00 difference between the two. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. POWER AND SOUND KIT 119020 - BMW (11-12-2-444-214) $2,562.50 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY - BMW (24-40-7-561-393 $5.27 SET TAILPIPE TRIM CARBON 189010 - BMW (18-30-2-444-530) $1,050.00 M PERFORMANCE CHROME EXHAUST FINISHER (SET OF - BMW (18-30-2-444-529) $540.00 LOWER COVER - BMW (51-12-8-067-763) $225.14 Labor to install $2,280.00" |

Yes, it really does cost that much. The kit itself includes the flash tune for DME, axle-back silencer/muffler, torque converter and some stickers. You also require the tips (either carbon fiber or chrome) and also the M550i rear diffuser (the stock 540i diffuser does not fit the larger tips). Also, the labor is super expensive because of the torque converter requires dropping the entire transmission to change.
My advice is to go aftermarket tune (e.g. Bootmod3 or MHD) and aftermarket exhaust (e.g. Remus, Dinan, Armytrix, etc.). I personally went with BM3 and Remus and couldn't be happier! IMHO, only advantage of MPPSK kit is to keep the warranty intact. However, you are paying easily 2-3x that if you went with aftermarket (e.g. I paid $500 for BM3 tune and $1500 for Remus exhaust and tipsj with install). Whether or not that delta is worth it to you is up to you to decide!

I'm personally running BM3 Stage 1 E30 (30% ethanol) tune on my 540i which makes roughly 420WHP. Honestly, it really transformed the car from stock. It wasn't slow at stock by any means, but doing the Stage 1 tune (even on 91 pump gas) really transformed the car and imho BMW should've shipped the car that way. The MPPSK tune makes around 355WHP. Interestingly enough, BM3 offers the MPPSK tune for free You can also get custom tunes if you decide to (only worth it once you go full bolt-on, i.e. downpipe, high pressure fuel pump, and turbo). The downside to all of this is that if you have a catastrophic engine or any other drivetrain failure (e.g. transmission, transfer box, etc.), they will most likely pull FASTA data (low level diagnostic logs stored on the DME) which will 100% detect your tune. However, if you have minor engine problems (some people even have gotten warranty replacements when their turbos blew) or problems unrelated to the drivetrain (e.g. iDrive headunit, speakers, etc.), then you should be fine. Bottom line: you gotta pay to play the game

Don’t waste money for that. In addition, a partial oil change is also required, when you change torque converter. 4 liters +-.

Yeah, not sure why BMW requires replacement of torque converter with MPPSK.
If you look at the P/Ns, the replacement torque converter is actually the same P/N as the torque converters in the B58 equipped F-series (F30, F32, etc.). The G30 540i/x has a different torque converter. Looking at Bimmercat/RealOEM, you will find that G30 one is heavier than F3x one. Perhaps for fuel economy or comfort reasons due to G30 being more "luxury" oriented vs. F3x? Who knows...just my hunch.

Unless someone has a gun to your head, don't get the MPPSK... It is way too quiet and almost an unnoticeable change for the price you're paying.

Personally, I had a catless downpipe and a muffler bypass with the stock resonator in place on my 540i.. it was loud as hell and droned at times, but it was fun! |
