21inch wheels on an M550i

Hey everyone,

I purchased a set of 20inch wheels for my M550i that arrived damaged so I am back on the market for a new set which had me wondering about 21inch rims.

Has anyone mount a set of 21inch wheels on an M550i? I heard if you mount a tire that is too tall it will throw the AWD system off. So to go to 21inch, the tire would have to be lower profile than the 20inch tires... correct?

Would this be the correct tire setup for a 21inch wheel? I want to go as wide as possible for the rear.

Front: 265/30 R21 or 275/30 R21

Rear: 295/25 R21 or 305/25 R21

Thanks! -JP

You can even do:
Front: 255/35 R21 on 9" ET30
Rear: 295/30 R21 on 10.5" ET42 - 44

But would need to fit a H&R kit do drop it an extra 20mm vs. M-chassis

I wanted to do a 35 front tire and 30 rear tire but I thought that this would be too tall for xDrive with a 21inch wheel and throw an error message?

BMW Style 629 21 inch wheels

Just got these BMW style 629 wheels put on my M550i today, and I am loving the way they look! Adding floating center caps as a final touch. My car is a bit dusty, needs a proper wash. I'll take more pics later

The tires are 245/35 R21 Front and 295/30 R21 Rear

Wheels look good on car. I would love to see these in a gloss black or brushed titanium color. How is the ride and could you have gone with a 255 in the front?

Wheels look great, now add some lowering springs and it will be perfect.

These wheels come on the 7 series style 629. Mine are in black chrome or as bmw calls it liquid black. I have 255/35/21 and 295/30/21. Fronts do rub sometimes when I turn and reverse out of my driveway. They actually drive just like the stock 20"wheels did because it was same profile. I should have done 245/35/21 and 285/30/21 so it won't rub.

As long as you keep the rolling circumference largely the same as the square setup you'll be fine. Even on a prefecture square setup you'll get slightly out of spec as you have uneven wear but that usually stays well within a fraction of 1% difference

Fwiw the 550 stock 245/35 vs 275/30 is like 0.96% difference in rolling circumference
