2018-19 m550 modifications

I don't usually see any post talking about mods for the m550i 18-19. wanted to ask everyone for their step-by-step mods to make some power. I know of the down pipes, intakes and e tune and later on turbo upgrade. but I wanted to ask if there's a need to upgrade the fuel pumps? or run better fuel lines? any supporting mod that will be wise to do to help out upgraded turbos. I'm coming from the n54 community with my 535 and there was info on the right way to mod them, I'm just hoping there's info for the m550. thank you!

The fuel upgrade depends on your map, mods, and the fuel you are using.

Unless you are going for extreme power gains, you wont need this upgrade

A stage 1 tune is the best bang for your buck. You can go from a stock 456hp to 570-590hp depending on tuner you buy from. $650 to $750.

Intakes and exhaust have only a mild effect (maybe another 20 to 25hp for a bunch of money...$2k+) Intercooler and turbos are even more $$$, invasive and potentially problematic if not done right by an experienced tuner.

If you goal is big numbers, get a 2020 with the larger turbos already. The 2020 on up make big numbers with a stage 1 tune. Amazing in fact.

Great questions OP! Just got my 2019 m550i in April. So far my BM3 stage 1 93 (through X-PH) has been terrific, definitely worth it. @430Scud which tuners can get the 18-19 m550i to 570-590 with just stage 1? I will definitely check them out. OP I think we can also look into the XHP tcu tune for some performance gains but I hear varying reviews on it for our specific cars.

I have a 2018 M550.

Is the power gain with a 91 octane piggyback or flash tune a huge gain or just modest?

What 430Scud said: A Stage 1 tune is the single best bang for the buck. I would call it a huge gain.

BM3

I have a stock 2018 M550. I've driven a 2018 with BM3 stage 1. The performance difference is dramatic, in my opinion. Not "Ladas into Lambos" but there is no mistaking that the tuned car is way zippier. I just hope the owner doesn't bend a rod lol.

Agreed. I did bootmod3 stage 1, and xhp. No other mods and the car flies! I don't think any of the bolt ons are worth the money for the power when compared to the tune. Just my humble opinion

I've got stg 1 BM3 ony 2018 M550i, love it. Contemplating a transmission tune, happy with it? How's the drivability? Drastic performance gains, such as acceleration?

It's amazing! I strongly recommend tuning the transmission. You feel the difference in power with the insane torque unleashed with tuning the transmission. Definitely worth the extra $500

Was flashing simple? I read there is a lot of setup initially? I want comfort to remain soft and smooth as stock and other mode can be as wild. What I dont is a very jerky shifting car. What stage you running?

There is no change to comfort mode... There are three stages for sport transmission, I use Stage 3 which is the most aggressive and honestly it's not jerky, just aggressive. You can try each of the different stages and see what feels the best for your sport+ driving. Comfort and eco stays STOCK. It's simpler than the bootmod. Super quick.

I did a stage1 93 octane BM3 on my 2020 M550 and it was the best money I have spent. It made the car feel more comfortable to drive with the linear HP boost, like butter smooth, but still slap your moma if you want.
