Finally took a little road trip. I didn’t want to dilute the mileage results with any driving that wasn’t on the interstate, so I reset the “individual” trip odometer every time I got on the interstate and snapped a screen shot before exiting. Here are three different samples, below.
I did not tailor my driving to get better mileage. I was moving at a pretty good pace. I just wanted to know what I’d get with my normal driving habits. Also, it was all in north Mississippi, so some modest hills, but also a lot of flat terrain. I got around 23-24 mpg. Same driving in my old 540 would have gotten maybe 28 mg.

Thought it was about time to actually check out what my 545e would actually do in terms of economy.
Took a half decent trip from the Midlands to Liverpool for a gig (no, not the Beatles!) It's roughly a 2 hr run usually, and the car has done just over 5k miles. I did not have the car to drive miss Daisy (albeit, that is our dogs name, and she does travel in the back an awful lot of the time) so usually it in either electric or sport. I have and do use Hybrid when I program in the destination for best use of battery. thats what I did on the way up, and having a full battery to start with got 44.9 MPG with an average speed of 56MPH overall. Motorway speed is never above 73, and with so many cameras / average speed checks, thats fine by me. On the way back - thought id try the Hybrid Eco Pro. Zero miles available on battery available at start, same average speed - 38.9MPG overall. From having zero range on battery, it got to 6 miles available within around 90 miles from re/gen - using spare engine power. It used those 6 miles from around 15 miles to home. It is telling me that from factory start I am averaging some 40 MPG, and have done some 53% of total mileage on electric. The latest app update on the phone now tells me stuff like (per month) :- eDrive share 46% (237m v 284m) which is 52% more than March mileage wise. Apparently in April I am 55% above the average community eDrive (ony UK based 545e's) Having that data is useful for me, as I never expected a car of this size, with such an engine, to do anything like this, even with electric. Very happy! Yes, it does get used in anger on occasion, and it is plenty, plenty fast enough for me. |

It’s actually quite easy and in a perverse sort of way , fun!
Tricks are constant speed . Use cruise control or the limiter. The slightest acceleration kills the economy. Use coasting where possible I had more fun though around some twisty country roads that day, throughly enjoyed driving the car. It’s engine makes any journey effortless |

I almost feel ashamed to post this up....
ok so M550 I was on my way up to the M power day at Bicester heritage I was early and in no rush at all so sat behind a lorry travelling at just under 60 mph pretty much the whole route and this is what I got. (A record?) I can assure you I have been enjoying the M550 recently with MPGs of around 30 . |

Are the mileage figures posted from UK drivers based on a US gallon or an Imperial gallon that is 20% larger than ours here in the States? Should it be the latter, than these mpg numbers would convert to about 35 mpg.

Well , this is rather” perverted “ but I’ve beaten my record again. 95 mile journey and in no rush to get home . Mostly motorway , sat behind a lorry most of the way with it driving at its limited speed of 56mph.
The app records the average mpg as 45.2 mpg (U.K.) Average speed 49.5 mph As before , by no means typical but just shows how frugal the m550 can be. Sad I know……. |

When I was 16 & had my 50cc Vespa my scooter buddies & I would often tuck ourselves in behind a lorry on an A road & get sucked along behind it at 50+ mph

I wasn’t that close! ACC set to 3 bars so a good 2 seconds or so behind.
I’ve enjoyed this car so much I’ll be ring up my insurers this week to increase the annual mileage on it. First time I’ve ever had to do that! |
