Front colloison sensor issue???? Car image screen keeps popping up???? What is issue?

For past 2 months the car visual screen (like the one that comes up when ur parking and getting too close) pops up for no reason specially in traffic or behind a car and not too close. It usually happens with white colored cars i noticed. It makes the beep sound one time and appears

I took to dealership twice. First time they tested senors and all was good and then they reprogrammed software and senors supposuly

Now went back and did it again..... they checked and said there
Good.

Why is this screen with visual keep popping up it never used to do this ..... sad not the best bmw techs cant find the issue and saying sensor is good?

It's because you've got too close to the car in front according to the sensors. You can switch this forward alert off in I drive somewhere

I've generally only seen this when parking and manoeuvring close to other objects or on the odd occasion in traffic whe I have pulled up particularly close to the car in front. Not seen at any other times

The same thing happens to me from time to time OP. It has also happened with no car in front of me, very random.

Dirty sensor, malfunctioning sensor or a problem with the PDC controller box mounted in the trunk.

Take it back. Bitch and complain until the fix it. If you can easily reproduce it, ask to have the shop foreman go on a drive so he can see the problem.

Who are you dealing with? Braman or South Motors?

Take video whenever possible. But again you need to involve and escalate to the shop foreman as he is the most powerful guy in the service department besides the service manager/director.

If all else fails at Vista, take it to Lauderdale BMW for a second opinion.

Don't be afraid to involve a reputable independent BMW repair shop for diagnostic and another opinion.

These sensors are generally OK but they tend to be bitchy. If the dealer doesn't see a code stored they will say nothing is wrong and move along. You could have a defective sensor that shorts out of the blue. Unfortunately, the sensor would have to get worse before it gets better for them to replace them.

The sensor(s) is/are probably going bad. Could be a short that is causing a false read and they freak out. It has happened in my car probably a couple of times at most when driving but it's never a frequent thing.

Keep them clean. These things tend to malfunction in the presence of grime and dust.

Sensors are wonderful when they work as intended but a pain the ass when they start acting up and unfortunately you can't escape these in the vast majority of new cars today.

If water has made it to the sensor they can fail. It is just an electronic component. I can't imagine dealing with these as they age!

Next time you are up Vista ask to speak with the shop foreman. If you don't escalate past the service advisor, you ain't getting this resolved.

By nice, courteous but firm. The squeaky wheel always gets the grease!

Definitely man! The PDC control unit is a tiny plastic back box mounted inside the trunk liner I believe on the right side of the car. The PDC unit can also be the root cause here. Those things can also fail out of the blue.

Replacing the PDC unit is a matter of unplugging the old one and plugin the new one and good to go.

Well worth trying to pursue a PDC unit replacement. They have to isolate the problem to either bad sensors or a defective PDC box.

Good luck!

This is the PDC control unit used in the 5 and 7 Series.. Retails for about $80-$100 bucks.
