Could the rings be removed ? I assume it is only some sort of screen protector with the rings attached (glued?) on the prior to July 2018 and just a protector screen after. All other the same.

Behind is only software as screen the same.

If it looks better with or without rings is a matter of individual taste I suppose. I have tried both and I am happy with the rings on mine.

But if it would be possible to do a Remote Software Update via the BMW connected app ofcourse be interested to understand if the rings could come off to allow for Idrive7.0 type display which would conflict with the rings obviously...

This is an interesting question. But do not think there will be any updating of cars that roll today.

Just curious as to where the notion came from that existing cars will be updated to idrive 7?

I have the hybird digital display on my 2019 540i m sport. Still don't get why Bmw just didnt offer full display and not make it an upgrade.
