Shutter Problems

I am sitting in the BMW dealership. Back to fix a check engine light (CEL) again. At 22875 miles i got the first CEL WITH CODES indicating the lower shutters were faulty. They were replaced. Today I got another CEL and the dealer said the upper Shutters were faulty at 24,895 mi. They replaced them and its working as it should now. Has anyone else had both shutter assemblies replaced with so low mileage? I really really like this car but if i’m gonna have to replace the shutters every 25000 miles. . I am not sure if I want to do that. I’m old and I like things to work.

I am at about 16k miles and have had both replaced... but never a CEL. To my knowledge it’s a shadow/hidden fault. I first noticed it because they stopped closing one day; never informed via vehicle systems as stated above.

I am just coming up to 22000 miles and having both changed under warranty.
Never got a CEL though only noticed top shutter never closed so asked them to check the shutters when I got brake fluid changed.

I think the winter and accumulation of ice and snow on shutters destroyed mine. Time will tell after this winter.

So tonight I came home from the gym. It is an 8-mile trip. The car was completely warmed up since it is 68f here. I decided to not shut off the car ad see where the shutters were. I didn't drive fast, just a slow nice post-workout drive home. Both shutters were closed with the engine idling and the cooling fans were not running as far as I could tell anyway. I have lost most of my hearing. I was thinking of buying a go-pro camera and pointing it at the shutters to see how they operate during a typical drive. I just wonder if they stay closed most of the time. I thought last night of just letting the car idle to see how long it would take for them to open but I didn't. The reason I am fascinated with this is I'm retired and I have no hobbies. Hopefully, the shutters will not need any additional replacement when the warranty runs out. Still Love the car.

Well, today it is my turn for this problem.

Last week when I stopped for coffee on the way to my office in the morning, I noticed they were open as I walked away from the car, which seemed unusual because it wasn’t even fully warmed up and I had not been driving hard. When I parked at my office, they were closed and I figured no worries.

Today I got in the car. Check Engine Light came on and the shutters aren’t closing.

Time for a visit to the dealer.... 29,000 miles here.

Even after spirited driving and the fans running with the engine off, they still close pretty quickly (as in, “I wonder how long they stay open fo...” and they closed). I recorded it once because science.
