Thread bump -
I had this issue come up in 2022 on a 2018 CPO
It was fixed under warranty end of July 2023

My warranty has now expired, but the problem has come back.

I'm now in an argument if this should be fixed again, given it should have already been fixed under warranty the first time 1.5 years ago.

They are saying they want to charge me a diagnose fee, and if its one of their parts that is faulty- there's a 2 year warranty on those- but if its a new cause of the problem, I am up for the full cost.

To me, it looks like they pretty much replaced everything to do with it below if I'm not correct?
What else could it have been if it wasnt one of these parts?
It looks like they even replaced the MAT-
So my opinion is- because its within 2 years, if its the MAT they put in, they should be liable to replace everything again??

What's everyone's thoughts?

Best,

My opinion doesn't mean squat to BMW, but I would press for them to repair it. The cost I was quoted for a pad replacement at the time mine was done was $2,700. In my opinion, BMW knows the parts are defective and simply doesn't want to solve the problem. This is not a new issue and goes back several years and models, yet we're still talking about it today.

My recommendation is to report any safety equipment issues to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If they get enough complaints, they can force the manufacturer to address the issue.

Thank you dscabra

1-
I've already reported to the NHTSA

2-
I pushed for it to be covered
They committed to covering if the error has anything to do with any of the parts they replaced in 2022, as Im still covered under a 2 year warranty with anything to do with those..

3-
That said..
Surprise suprise
Just got a call from the service center, and they said there's a fix available, but this is through a SOFTWARE UPDATE

I asked him when the update was released that deals with this error- he couldn't tell me. he said they are released all the time.

I asked if there was some change-log where it lists when this fix came in- and he said there wasnt..

So, Im liable for the 240 diagnostic fee- and he said he's going to include the software in that price.

I dont have a choice so I told him to just go ahead- I want this fixed- and if I can for 240 Ill take it.

I am super pissed off though.

Tell me if I'm being paranoid but I'm calling BS on it being a software fix and they're fixing it some other way with replacing a defective part they put in (thats still under warranty) to save them eating the repair cost.

What does everyone think of this?

I can't believe there hasn't been a recall for this. It pops up all the time.

Having said that, if you planned on keeping it past your CPO you should have looked into 3rd party aftermarket. Everyone knows how expensive these friggin' cars are to repair.

For me it was a no brainer. Spending $2700 to cover me until 2030 or 120,000 miles, was good money spent IMO.

Herk you're probably right- I honestly wasnt going to keep it past CPO warranty but Im on such a low rate that I might keep it another couple of years.

the CPO ran out July 2023

Do you know of any that I can jump into at this late stage?
Is it BMW who offer?

I dont believe it's possible to get aftermarket warranty after your CPO or Factory expires.
Quite a lot of us here use Route 66. You can call and ask them, but I doubt it's possible now that you're expired.

You can buy the Route 66 warranty after factory or CPO expires, I didn’t though as I timed it just right, but I didn’t have to, I just didn’t want to no be covered.

It’s the BMW warranty that you can’t buy after CPO expires.

For an update

The NHTSA has already reached out to me direct asking for more details.

Did anyone else get an immediate response after reporting this?

I would mention to them that it occurs often and several people have posted about it on this forum.
