Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Acoustic/Noise Cancelling

Anyone running these ? I have a set on the way. It has the exact same handling, grip, etc of the 'regular' PS4S, but there's a bit of foam imbedded making it very quiet.

I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with Michelin tire yesterday confirming they can be used on M550's. They're about $35 more than the regular PS4S.

The tire was originally produced for the Tesla, but they make several sizes of it now.

Will do ! I cant imagine the Super Sports are louder than these crappy Goodyear Eagle F1 runflats I have on right now. Did quite a bit of homework on these. The PS4S replaced the Super Sports in 2017, with a tad bit better noise, grip and longevity upgrades. The "acoustic" version is the same PS4S tire, but adds a thin strip of foam to keep it quiet. The Michelin tech I spoke to said they are virtually silent.

Not sure about the F1's but my PSS's got quite loud on smooth road surfaces from 30 to 50 mph. My PSS's are non run flats, are the acoustic version available in non run flat?

They're HERE !

They came in early !

I believe these are only available in the Non-Runflats only for those wanting to know.

A few pictures. On the tag, you can see "acoustic" with a pair of headphones under the ZR20.
The foam is glued down inside.

I have too many wheels and tires.. The ones in bag are my winter wheel/tire set.

Interesting! I did not know they made an acoustic version. Conceptually they should be quieter. I think my PSS's are on the louder side, but it depends on the pavement. Driving on 95 in NH where the roads always look like they were just paved, mine are fairly quiet, but on the same road in MA where the pavement is gray and old, they definitely make some noise, but I usually have my B&W system at a decent volume. The G30 is also very insulated.

Non run flats are definitely always going to be quieter than run flats. Can't wait to "hear" what you think. Are they star marked? Where did you get them? Tire rack?

Hi Joe,

When I spoke with the Michelin Tire rep the other day, he looked up the OEM tires for our M550's. They are the Michelin PS4S and the (awful) Goodyear F1 Runflats. So they are definitely approved.

I bought them on Ebay from this seller. https://www.ebay.com/usr/hockey1242gk2
$506 shipped for 2 brand new tires. Considering 1 of them is $450, it was an easy decision.

Still debating whether to mount my new PS4S now, or wait until Spring. Its getting close to putting the winter set on.

Great price! What were the dates of manufacturer stamped on the sidewalls?

As soon as I got them, I went over them with my 2x reader glasses and my spotlight. Perfect condition. No cracks, dryness, etc.

They have PLENTY of these in stock she said. I guess they buy auctions of overstock or businesses going down.

You got a deal, but consider these tires have been sitting somewhere, or in various places, for 3 years (at least one of them) and you really have no idea where. That said, they at least have the original Michelin decals on them and the decals don't look weather beaten, so that's good. Hopefully, they're still round. LOL

This ebay seller likely purchased them at auction from a dealer/distributor moving old stock. Michelin, and most other OEM's, do not want dealers holding tires longer than 18-24 months from manufacture date.

Hopefully the foam addon provides some sound deadening you're hoping for. I have the Michelin PS3ZP (run flats) on my G30 and I find them to be quiet until they're close to the end of life. Even then, the noise isn't noticeable, except when decelerating to a stop.

Great deal indeed. I can't think of a reason to mount them or not mount them now, other than having them ready to go for next spring if you do your own swaps.

Well thanks for the input, but I did do some pre-research before purchasing. They have 45,000+ reviews and are 99.8 rated since 1999. I actually spoke with them on the phone on how they acquired the tires.

I hear you. Regardng the reseller and how they get these tires, I wouldn't put 2 cents on them being honest with a customer. For various reasons.

Just put them on and hopefully they're good. Make sure you find a shop with a lever less tire mounting machine. Common tire shops will mangle your rims trying to r&r these low profile tires.

This is why I only let the dealer install tires. If you don't want to pay the 10% dealer juice on the tires, they will let you bring your own tires.

Totally agree with you and would jump on this deal in a heartbeat but my dealer unfortunately won't install any tires they didn't sell, apparently for liability issues.

More dealers are now refusing to install tires purchased elsewhere, except in rare situations where thet can't get the tires themselves.

Tirerack often recommends a mobile company called Tread Connection. Their trucks are outfit with high end Corghi (Italian made) contact less or lever less mounting machines and Corghi's diagnostic series wheel balancers. I've had experience using their services and was happy. The tech was careful and did a great job.

The dealer also has excellent equipment as required by BMW.

I think you are right, but it's really up to the discretion of the dealer. I pulled all the service records on my car before pulling the trigger. At one point, the dealer noted "all tires worn, need replacing" and then "customer will provide own tires". Then a few weeks later, dealer "installed customer provided tires".

Now all this said, I have no issue just paying the dealer 10% more and keeping them in my good graces. Hopefully they will get me these acoustic ones when I need new rubber.

Yeah, I am happy Mark found this deal, looking forward to his feedback after install.

For those in the MA/NH area, Tulley BMW of Nashua is going to mount the tires for me.
$185 for everything. I'm also going to get an alignment done that day also. Just to make sure all is perfecto.

For a daily driver, those dates would not bother me. Unfortunately for my M550ix I'm only putting a couple thousand miles per year on it (hopefully more next year), and I would end up replacing due to age, rather than miles. Most tires are recommended to replace by 6 to 7 years (varies by manufacturer). I always inquire on tire age when purchasing.

I believe Michelin says to begin inspections of tire casing at 6 years and to definitely replace at 10 years. Not sure if this applies to all Michelin models. I've seen too many tires that begin to show spider web cracking between the tread or on the sidewall after 6 years, and on occasion I've seen it on newer tires (usually not Michelin). So, considering the tire is the only thing connecting my 4000 lb car to the road, I'd err on the side of caution.
