Open Pore Wood Refinish...? !

My 2018 Matte finished wood needs some TLC and I am curious if anyone has stained their’s a darker finish? I was going to mask off the aluminum and stain the wood on dash/doors a darker color but keep the grain look. Suggestions appreciated.
